Hello to all,


Just need some insight on some things.

I
f giving these stats and trying to apply to D.O schools what do you think?


25 yrs old,Single parent of a 5 yr old, first generation grad, eco dis.


Undergrad sci and overall 2.5 (B.S. Biology Minor Chemistry)
Graduate overall 4.0 (Master public Health)
MCAT hopeful of 30 +
Kaplan prep class 6/08-8/08
Missouri resident (parents and born ) Texas resident (for 2 years)


Volunteering includes:
Arkansas Children Hospital
Children Medical Center of Dallas
Science Mentor
Planned Parenthood of Kansas City


Work includes:
High School Chemistry Teacher
Medical Technologist
Research Assistant
Radiology Assistant


What do you recommend?

Your undergrad GPA is going to hurt you a bit. With an MCAT score of 30+ you would definitely stand a good chance in DO schools. EC list is in great shape.

Overall your application seems strong. Just to verify you should ask your questions in the DO forum...

What do you recommend?


Get a 30 on your MCAT and you'll be golden. You live in TX, so your chances are much greater for an acceptance if you want to attend a state school. The only thing holding you back is your undergrad GPA, and you have overcome that with your graduate GPA. Especially if you have 20 hours or so. Also, applying as late as you are in the cycle may hold you back a bit. Worst case scenario, wait a year and apply next June. GOOD LUCK!



One more thing, between now and the time you apply, shadow a couple of doctors (DO if possible...get a LOR) and write a KICK@$$ personal statement. Make sure that your LOR's are going to be GREAT too.
