career pathway in Germany

Hi all, want to get some advice about working in Germany.

I'm a graduate from Irish medical schools, and am currently working in my 2nd year ( completed my internship, currently a 1st year Senior House Officer in Medicine)

I've several questions about working in Germany as a doctor:

1) After completing internship in Germany, what is the career path progression like? Eg in ireland you'd go on to basic specialist training (BST) which takes 2 years (requiring MRCP to go ahead) , application to a scheme and on average taking 8-10 years to be a consultant

how many years on average does it take to be a consultant in Germany. What exams do you need to do from your first year of working all the way to the top?

Most of the english speaking countries eg uk , ireland, aus takes almost a decade to get to the top..

Would be grateful for further advice..just a skeletal outline would be great..thanks

Hey there, I read that you completed your internship in Ireland? I wanted to ask you if you knew how hard is it to match for a spot as a non-EU citizen who studied in an EU country?

Regarding Germany, the average number of years is around 5-6 depending on the specialty. Also there are no such formal exams during medical training/residency. It's mostly timely evaluation by your medical chief/mentor. At the end of the residency however, there is an exam for the chosen specialty that you have to pass in order to be board certified.

regarding ure answer may i ask after ending of my specialty in germany and get board certified is that allow me to work in UK or canda or?? i will need plab or something like that ???to be eligeble there (UKor CANDA)

that is what Ive heard..it almost sounded too good to be true...cos i was sick of the irish/uk/aus system where you keep getting gated by exams

is there a website i can read up about this, like an official german website for doctors:?

Im Malaysian myself but did my degree in Ireland. It varies. The last year almost all the malaysian applicants (studying in ireland ) got jobs. But due to some EU ..changes in rules? They didnt take any at all this year bar 3 ppl from the whole of ireland..and thats about maybe 300 malaysians

Hey there, taking the PLAB is subject to your citizenship. If you're an EU citizen, then there should be no problems. But this doesn't necessarily mean you'd be able to work in the US without any further training. It really depends on the specialty you choose.

Canada is a entirely different game. You have to apply from the beginning (take the MCGGE steps) and it's pretty tough (almost nil chances) to get into the system as a non-Canadian system.
