I dunno...articles like this come out all the time for a whole host of diseases. In fact, there ARE a lot of experimental therapies for hard-hitting diseases out there, but they're experimental for a reason. The biggest pitfalls for these therapies come in human trials, and if this one is anything like the others it will fail too. Articles like these are often a combination of overexcited journalism and unfamiliarity with the scientific community.
I do most of my work in stroke, and in fact there are over 1,026 recorded "cures" for stroke (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16453316), but very few of them really work practically in humans. Anyway, don't give up on going into oncology just yet. |

The article never says "all cancers are cured". The article never even specifies which type of malignant neoplasm was examined during the experiment.

Tired of basic research

This really isn't a "new" idea we've been theorizing and studying activated killer T cells activated against different antigens for years against a variety of things. Don't know how many made it to human trials but it's an old idea.

Very interesting, thanks for posting that.
Here's another treatment that's been developing, using radio waves and nanoparticles: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/...n3206892.shtml http://www.kanziuscancerresearch.com/ And here's one that's already gone into human trials (with success), also using nanoparticles: http://www.thirteen.org/curious/epis...sode-survival/ http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct/show/NCT00333502?order=1 |

This is totally typical. Neuroprotector is right, a lot of very promising treatments do fail in the human phase of clinical trials. For example, a few years back they were preparing to unveil a new treatment against Endometriosis. The main treatments for Endometriosis are birth control (some in which puts the patient into a drug-induced state similar to that of menopause) and surgery to get rid of or reduce adhesions in the abdominal cavity. This new drug was promised to give women the benefit of these treatments without the side-effects or other ramifications. However, in the human phase of clinical trials, it was discovered that the drug changed the composition of the woman's uterine lining, making it thicker, thereby making it more painful. So even if the drug shows promise, we shouldn't be too quick to jump on it until it finishes the human phase of clinical trials, as that is where it may most likely be found to be problematic.
