Can an Optometrist in NY prescribe medication?

Hey guys,
I just wanted to know if Optometrists in NY can prescribe medications. I know its legal in some states but I'm not sure about NY. Thanks for the help!:)

Hey!
I'm pretty sure optometrists in NY can prescribe topical medications, but not orals yet.
 
We only fill topicals for OD in NYS restricted to the eyes. No orals.
