Vanishing Threads

No offense, moderators but you're way too move-happy. There was an MCAT score thread here about someone asking for support, not asking "what are my chances" and it was moved to the WAMC thread. First, that thread is way too congested for ANYONE to read through it and give advice. Second, it was a thread that could be a source of inspiration for people other than the OP.

Just because someone has a question about something, doesn't mean they need to be in that thread. I really wish you'd leave these threads separate as they are PRE-OSTEO issues, not "what are my chances." The OP even said he wasn't applying this cycle. How can it possibly be a WAMC thread?

Moderation is a subjective thing and alkthough there is a pretty well-defined TOS at SDN, nothing is truly set in stone. I didn't personally move it, but I probably would have if I had been here ealier. If you'll check out the title, you'll see that the thread is for much more than just WAMC. It also covers "What do I do next?" The posters question was what should s/he do now. That is the perfect place for the question, IMO.

I have to chime in here and agree with the OP. Too many threads are being moved. It would be one thing if you could actually find the thread once it was forwarded, but in actuality I think most of the moved threads are lost. I understand the desire to consolidate, but trying to wade through a thread that is umpteen pages long is just too time prohibitive.

I still think that moving all the 2008-2009 threads to a separate subforum would clear up a lot of space on the main page, and people would still be able to easily access them; even moreso in a separate subforum.

I wish they at least notified the thread creator that it was moved. I created a threat, which WASN'T a question about AACOMAS and it was moved into that question thing. It was meant to be a bit of a discussion and when it was moved led me to sifting through a whole bunch of crap in one thread rather than a simple answer. I wish there were a feature that allowed the creator to delete the thread when his or her question was answered, or if they elect have it saved. I don't really care about clutter so much since nearly every thread for the past 3 years has been the same thing. We aren't going to be wowed with any new questions anytime soon.

We need to just make a 'what are my chances/what do I do from here' sub-forum like they have over in pre-Allo. Throw a sticky up that says, post this jazz in there, and it will be a spot where all the threads will be organized, but still individual and easy to follow/give advice.

Subforums vs no subforums have been discussed a bit in the past. http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=483859

One of the issues raised with subforums is that the more the forum is divided, the more cumbersome it becomes to browse. It's a valid concern, but maybe it's time to revisit the question again.

I think another issue is that everyone has a slightly different idea of the "right" way to divide the forums - ie. by school, topic, year, etc.

Its been discussed.... but PA has much more traffic than PO and merits a subforum. Actually, the reason they put in a subforum was really the success of our PO thread in the past. The more individual threads you have, the easier is is to get lost quite quickly. Once things roll off the front page seldom does anyone ever look at them again.

One other point is that you'll get less traffic in a subforum in most cases. The people that know the answers will glance throught the main forum quite often, but once you begin subdividing it, fewer people will take the time to click on it and read it. The more clicks it takes to get there, the fewer people will read it. The more often it scrolls off of the front page, the fewer people will read it.

As for the option about deleting your thread when the question is answered, just become a donor to SDN and you have that ability.
As for notification about moves, a redirect marker is usually left in place for a few days anyway. Click on it and it'll take you to the right thread.
