Question A Good Residency Application

SDN Members don't see this ad.
I am a 1st year med student interested in ophthalmology. I have gotten a good sense of some of the important things that residency programs look at (inc. good clinical exposure) from this forum, but I was also wondering about extracurriculars. How important is it to be involved in something? There are many projects and groups to get involved in at my school that interest me, but so far I have been happiest (and feel busy enough) just trying to do well in my classes and continuing to run. My plan right now is to continue this schedule and next year (or possibly later this year) add something else that looks interesting to me. How does this sound? Would it be a good idea to start something else now? Thanks.
