My last day of medical school was TODAY! Muhahahah! I am DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got April off, graduate in May, and start residency June 26th (orientation).

How about the rest of you? When are you all done?

I got an email from the Program Coordinator, saying we have to send in what two weeks we want off for vacation for our intern year... what kind of vacations are you getting? USF didn't tell us how many weeks we were getting off at orientation (their orientation was pretty lackluster), but I was hopign for atleast three. If Christmas is included, then I'm fine... otherwise that SUCKS!

This reply function really sucks donkey dick. I had to hit reply/back 5-6 times to get a screen up to type something.

I had all of March off, unfortunately, I have 2 weeks of optho starting tomorrow, then 2 weeks of forensic path. I'm done April 25. Graduate May 18th. Start residency **JUNE 14**. Doesn't that suck?

Metro gives you 3 weeks/year + either Xmas or NY's.

Mike-

Yeah, most residencies that I interviewed at said you got either 2 or 3 weeks plus Christmas or New Year's week off... I am really hoping that's the case with USF/Tampa General... I mean, if its the FIRST class, and there are only SIX residents, and this hospital has been going on for years without EM residents, it wouldn't be that big a deal to give us off Christmas/New Year's... we'll see. I should hopefully hear back tomorrow...

No wonder you were on SDN a lot this past month (you had it off all month!). Well, while I am here drinking my Michelob Ultra (95 calories!) I will hope that you are learning your slit lamp and being nice to Denise Catalano at Metro.

I ranked Metro #4. Sometimes, I wish I would have gone up north for residency... I will have been in FL for 4 years now, and residency will make that 3... I miss the cold!

What's up with these June start dates?? I was under the impressions (incorrectly, I guess) that most programs started July 1. That doesnt allow for much time to sell a house (if applicable), find new residence, and move. Are most programs starting earlier than July? It's great to "hear" everyone planning for their new journey. One more year for me.....

We start on June 16th, but I guess we have to stop by that Saturday for something.... I believe it is a health/TB screening.
All of June is an orientation in terms of employment stuff. All of July is an "ED orientation month" where we work fewer shifts than normal and have a lot more didactics. August starts the "real" rotations (ED, med, peds, trauma).

Default June starts...

I still haven't gotten an official start date (or contract for that matter), but rumor has it that we start June 16th with a week doing ED orientation and merit badges. Then we get a funfilled week of house staff orientation with the GME office.

Only good part of orientation? We're doing some sort of team building thing... last year they did white water rafting!!!

as for me, i`ve been out of school since 2/28. i had a wonderful time in new orleans for mardi gras. then kicked it in houston for a couple of weeks with some friends from college. now i am in the yucatan of mexico, soaking up some sun and exploring many Mayan ruins....oh yeah, and trying to learn some Spanish. i`m here for about a month, and then i guess i`ll start making my plans to move to nyc.

i`m not sure when my program begins. we`re supposed to receive all of that information in the next two weeks. i did get an email from the PD reminding us not to do any drugs in the three weeks before we start so that we can pass our drug test. i thought that was funny. but, i think we start closer to july 1 b/c we have an entire month of orientation, followed by our first rotation in august.

best of luck to all of us that are finally going to be doctors...yeah, i know, that?s scary for some of us....
