I just got my MCAT Score. I am really upset. I really studied hard but it seems like its never enough. I am WTH. My parents are going to kill me if they hear that I can't get into a MED School. Please help with some suggestion about some MED Schools in US. Below are my scores. Science GPA: 3.4 Overall GPA: 3.7 MCAT: 19 I really have Good recommendation. I worked my back off in a hospitals, clinic and lots of other places. Please tell me if there is any med school that can work out with this gpa and mcat. thanks you so much |

Unfortunately, I don't think that will be high enough to get into a US medical school.
Why do you care so much about what your parents want you to do? What are your reasons for wanting to become a doctor? I'm not trying to discourage you from continuing to pursue this path, but you shouldn't be trying to become a doctor for anyone but yourself. |

Schemp raises good points. It's what you want that's important. Your parents aren't going to live your life.
If you do, in fact, want to go into medicine, you're going to need a much better MCAT score. To have much of a chance at DO schools, you'll need something in the 24+ range. For MD, you'll need a 29+, at least. Try to figure out what went wrong, take a bunch of practice tests, and get help wherever you can.

My recommendation, without knowing anything about your particular situation, is to take a year, regroup, retake the MCAT, and try the following year. Specifically, try and figure out what it was about your schedule, study habits, or test environment that did you in, fix it, and come out strong thereafter. After all, you've already faced the beast once - now it's just a matter of defeating it.

With a 3.4 science GPA, you really want to get a 30+ on the MCAT. I agree, take a year to study, and retake.

Highly unlikely your score is high enough to be considered at US MD programs.
Did you study for this exam? Take a Kaplan class and re-take |

sorry to hear that. i'm sure it's stressful worrying about your parents' reaction AND the score. before you even begin thinking about retaking the mcat, i think it's really important for you to think about what motivates you for medicine. it's all good if you want to do it because it's what YOU want, but if it's about your parents...it's gonna be difficult on you. it's a hard path, to get ready for medical school and becoming a doctor..you're gonna feel like crap many times (well, I do at least being in the middle of application) and the last thing you want is to even question if it's what you want and have the weight of your parents on your shoulders. i've seen and dealt with demanding parents and i know how hard it can be..but in the end you've got to carve your own path for yourself. if all this is totally irrelevant, just ignore it
anyways, best of luck next time around!

If you can afford the Kaplan course, great.
If not, you can buy three books with 10 total MCAT practice tests for about $60 from Barnes and Noble or somewhere like that. Seriously, the best way to practice for the MCAT is to do a lot of practice tests. If you see that you're scoring 30's, then you know that the 19 score was a fluke, and you just need to relax the next time you take it. If you're scoring 15-20's, then you know that the score was indicative of your true abilities, and you will need to consider either forking out the dough to get some serious retraining in the MCAT material, or look to another career path. Although, as has been mentioned, unless you went to a complete joke of a college, 3.7 GPA 3.4 sGPA does not indicate that your maximum scoring capability on the MCAT is a 19... |

![]() 2. I'm sure others have already said it, but no. You need a better MCAT than that, you should retake if YOU want to go to med school. I repeat: If Y O U want to go to medical school. Your GPA is PROBABLY okay for a low-tier or in-state school if you get your MCAT up.

Don't take the MCAT again until you can consistently get 30s on the AAMC practice tests. If it takes you two years to do this, so be it.
Personally, I wouldn't do a Kaplan course, that just gives you false confidence the second time. You should get some Examkracker review books and read them cover to cover. Do every single problem, timed. If you don't understand the concepts in EK, look them up online. |
