Default The Official 3/27/2010 MCAT Club...

SDN Members don't see this ad.
I thought I'd get this started since there isn't one yet. Anyone else taking the March MCAT? I choose it because it is early enough to get scores and decide whether to retake in the summer. It's also the week after spring break, so that gives me a week with no distractions to prepare right before the exam.

I'm planning on doing it this date!

I'll be checking in ever so often to make sure we're all keeping up

Good luck everyone!

It will be my first time taking the MCAT in march...is this a bad idea if ill be applying june 2010? or should i just start studying now for the january MCAT?

Ive already finished the pre-recs and taken a prep course before.

i was going to have super light load winter quarter...and focus on the MCAT starting december...

Will there be enough time to retake maybe on the May 1st test... so i can get my app in as early as possible?

dude, why wouldn't march be early enough? You will get your score on April 27 or 28 which is over a Month before you can submit your application in early June. May 1st or 2nd is the last day to get your mcat before you can submit around June 6th. However, schools don't receive your applications until around June 22nd. So, even a late May MCAT won't hurt you. It's much more important to be complete. So get your LoRs, essays, PS and all that stuff ready as well.

I'm still in the planning phase. I'm starting physics this week. It's my weakness, so I'm thinking I will get to go over it twice before the test if I go ahead and start with it now.

Default March/April not sure yet

I'm hoping to take the March 27 test. Going to start studying in a couple of weeks. Using Kaplan online and EK for extra verbal, o-chem, and physics work. Any other suggestions?

I'm going to religiously follow SN2ed's study guide, as well as all his suggestions for books to use: TBR for Physics, Chem, Org; TPR/EK for Bio; EK/TPR for verbal

I too am hoping to be ready for the March 27th test. Has a date (other than sometime in Nov) been released for registration?

lol, got to think for yourself a little bit there, following anything religiously isnt going to get you to the top. Anyways my gf is taking it this date. TBR bio sucks, it is so weird/hard, while MCAT questions are so easy, same for physics. Out of the 8 AAMC i took (7 Practice 1 Real) i never got below 14 on either, so I dont think I am imagining it.

Here's the website http://www.aamc.org/students/mcat/re...orerelease.htm

It says Nov 2 is the date to register for any Jan - May MCAT.

I'll probably start studying in Jan if not a litte earlier. I have some x-mas gifts I have to finish making, so we will see if I can sneak in a little studying.

Advice to March test takers:

No need to do problems before 3-4 months before. If you want to do anything this early then I would suggest that you can read sections of MCAT prep but only for understanding, don't try to memorize anything. Just feel comfortable for example reading about all the physiology.

What you want to make sure is that you aren't reading a foreign language 3 months out. If you had excellent pre-req performance and professors you won't need to do this. If you took bio 4 years ago and are non trad you should do this.

Best prep books:

TPR / EK bio

TBR - chem/ochem/physics

I've bought everything (EK/Kaplan/TPR/TBR), above is the best.

You want to start practice exams 1.5 months before the exam, so plan accordingly (maybe 2 months out since during semester).

Good Luck!

Default March 2-7

Count me in for march 27...just registered for the big date.

I'm planning on using my TPR books (this is the 2nd time i'm taking the MCAT, ALMOST hit 30 but oh well), some EK practice questions, and listen to the pleasant voices of Jordan & John on Audio Osmosis. Studying alot more than my first time around...

What's everyone elses' game plan?

Nontrad here taking the exam for the first time.
Game plan: reading casually EK Bio and Chem to refresh content
reading, organizing advice and stratigies on how to take the exam.
Plan on starting a structured schedule in December.
Plan is to take an AAMC practice exam every weekend and review the exam throughout the week until I run out of exams to take.
Plan is to become familar with the exam so I will know and expect how the questions will be asked and presented.
Really need to get better on focusing for long periods of time...

Same here. I got a 29Q when I took it the first time . I'm retaking a Kaplan course and studying a little bit everyday. Hopefully I will score at least 30+ next year

People just signed up for the march 27. I took the MCAT on june 18 and the breakdown was p 10, b 10, v 5. Any help to increase my verbal to 9 will be appreciated. I think this time i should score a little more on both physical and biological. But i really need to raise my verbal.

EK 101
TPR Verbal book (hyperlearning)
AAMC FLs

Other than that use good reading material
- Wall Street Journal
- Economist
- Atlantic
- New Yorker
etc. Maybe Nature for heavier science stuff.
