Default How do I tutor someone for the MCAT

SDN Members don't see this ad.
Hi, I am a tutor for MCAT stuff. I don't know how to start helping my student because I find that you really have to put the time in yourself and taking Practice tests. How do I approach helping the student?where do I begin? Thanks for any advice! And go IOWA HAWKEYES!!!!! 9-0 baby!!!

When tutoring, my first step is to help my student figure out his/her learning style and then go from there. Are you going to be tutoring for the entire mcat or a specific section?

Default yes, ive taken the MCAT

I have indeed taken the MCAT, just over the summer, I need help tutoring a student in the MCAT, a friend of mine. She wants to take it, and we meet every week, starting next week. I am freaking out, because I do not know how to really begin. I do have a study pack, called Exam Crackers, and I didnt know if i should go through that with her, or start practice tests.

Part of the problem is, I feel that doing practice tests, and relearning material from chemistry, organic, and physics can be done one one's own time. So, I don't really know how to approach this. Thanks for any help, and go Iowa HAWKEYES, 9-0!!

I'd have her take the free practice test online from aamc first and identify her weaknesses. Then go through content with her, give her practice questions on whatever topic you went over for homework (exam krackers should work fine for this), and do full length timed practice tests every few weekends. You'll probably be able to focus your sessions more once you realize what it is she needs.
