Obviously I survived! As soon as I got home, I stripped out of my wet clothes, put on sweats and thick wool socks, grabbed my fleece Finding Nemo blanket, made some soup.... and an hour later, the shivering stopped. My bad for being so stubborn. I was convinced that the bus would come any time now! And... it didn't. It was a good excuse to get an eggnog latte while I waited for my ride.

It was very mild yesterday. When someone said we were getting a white Christmas, I thought they were joking.

I thought this, too. The weather network was predicting "light snow" when I checked yesterday afternoon. Apparently light snow = 3 to 4 inches.

Good luck on your date If you can't go anywhere, you could always build a snow fort together

This is a rant AND a rave but I prefer positivity so I thought I'd put it here.

Back at work for the christmas break and am SO EXCITED that I didn't forget clinical skills! Blood draws, IV caths, dentals....I even still remember how to run reception. I feel so at home in a clinic! My vet has always been super super helpful in educating me even as a pre-vet but she is giving me ever more information now! I love medicine.

as for a rant - WHAT WAS I THINKING????? I have had one day at home since finals last week and I'm getting a little tired! I work three more days after today and will then have a week off so there will be some R&R time. I need to learn to stop being an overachiever.....I just love being back in a hospital. It's like a strange drug addiction!

Happy Holidays, Everyone!

Today I was able to tell the vet that I have known for the past 6 and 1/2 years (since I was 17 years old) and who has written me 3 letters of recommendations over the last 3 years that I was accepted into vet school. This vet has taught me everything; he took me from the shy, quiet 17-year old who knew nothing to who I am now: confident, outgoing and experienced. I owe him so much; without him hiring me I would not be where I am today. He is super excited and is planning on throwing a party for me once I know for sure what school I will be attending.

White Christmas arrived here in NE PA. I'm thrilled! (Though this might throw a wrench in the plans for my family to make it home for Xmas....)

Yesterday was an amazingly productive day. Not only was the one lady (she did my degree audit) I needed in the registrar's office so that I could have her send the breakdown of my AP credit off to Western U, UC Berkeley Extension staff were in so that I could schedule a final exam for next week and I got a spot on the wait list for the city college class I need in public speaking.

Just one of those days where everything works out just right. I also managed to grab a Christmas tree for my new apartment, 7' of noble fir for $10! I can't shake the feeling that things are beginning to look up.

My dad said "love you" on the phone, that's a once every couple of years thing!

Maybe I'll get my Christmas wish - an interview invite

My rave: I think my baby brother's eyes almost popped out of his head when he saw his christmas present "under" the tree... It is most definitely bigger than him.

Nice wrapping job! I want one!!!

So, I might be seeing my engineer guy today. I got him a rose. Kind of cheesy... but back when we dated 7 years ago, the school was having a rose sale and we got each other one. He was told to stick his in the freezer so it lasts longer. Three years later, he finds the thing in his freezer. He said he has never gotten something like that from a girl since, so I figured I would get him another one...

Well... my "date" went better than our dates went when I was 16.
We talked a lot...
I even got kissed... twice!
Although it isn't technically our first kiss together, I cannot stop smiling. ...

... and wishing I had one of those inflatable sharks.

Baking Christmas dessert!
The recipe I'm sort of following keeps telling me to wait for X to settle, and Y to cool. And when I'm waiting I get creative. Now combining two recipes into one...This might be a rant in about an hour! Wish me luck. Pumpkin gingerbread tiramisu trifle is in the works....

I was really close to getting two of those sharky guys for my nephews but decided not to because they are apparently hard to put together, and having it assembled for them like you did wouldn't work so great on the car ride home in a van with seven people. Plus the ones at ToysRUs were the ones with the good remote, and they were sold out... of course.

I still want to get one. Maybe just for myself.

ETA: By 'good' remote, I mean it works from a longer distance? I dunno, husband reads a million reviews on the internet for anything we ever buy.

Speaking of buying things... I guess this is my husband's Xmas present?

Sure, go ahead! It was still time consuming and the shapes needed occasional modification, especially the nose. And he still kinda had a big butt.

Also, the little eyes you can buy from somewhere like Hobby Lobby that are made for stuffed critters really only look right with a fuzzy fabric. Otherwise, it looks hella creepy. That's why I decided to use buttons.

Tuesday Morning and Ross are probably the only places here I visit more than 3x a month (or even come close to that). Love lookin for STUFF.

He is hopefully going to be an Eventer. I'll share his registered TB name once I actually own him. I'm not sure if I'll keep it as his show name. I don't like his current barn name - so both are up for grabs! LOVE your ideas!! (his registered name does have "cool" in it)

We are starting fresh. He had a barn name on the track that he answers to but the trainer he moved to last week already had a horse with that name so she changed it to another name that I also don't like....Current thought is actually "Gryffindor" as a show name and "Fin" as a barn name. ("You might belong in Gryffindor, Where dwell the brave at heart, Their daring, nerve and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart
") Still stewing and have time to figure it out so all ideas are appreciated! But I really like the "Whole Lotta Latte" as a show name and "Mocha" as a barn name, too.....

Once he's here on trial, I'll post pictures.

OTTB (off the track Thoroughbred) gelding, Bay, 16hh, (and still growing - YAY!), turning 3 in March. I rode him walk/trot when I went to see him and he moved off my leg really well (even got a couple lateral moves away from my leg!) and light on the bit but VERY young. I'm planning on riding him during his trial but if purchased, he'll go out to pasture for minimum 6 months. He needs time to grow up and be spoiled by yours truly. At this point - it's really the vet check that is the big pending thing. I am NOT going to take a lame horse no matter how great its mind is!

I got an iPad for Christmas along with some other amazing presents! I am so spoiled by my family. My iPad is named Guillermo, because why not? I can't wait to have my uncle show me how to hook it up to our hidden wireless so I can start playing.

The only negatives about this Christmas were not being able to share it with my best friend's family (her mom passed away around Christmas last year so I think they wanted to be away from home to make it easier) and not knowing what's going on with my kitty.

I hope that you all had a fabulous holiday

GOOD NEWS!!!

I took my stray dog (whom I rescued in September and has had a bit of behavior/manners/aggression issues) to a behaviorist specialist today... turns out he's not so bad after (she said 3 on a scale of 1-10) and he is actually quite smart and picks up on things quickly (calmness, sity, down, etc.). I'm sure that has nothing to do with his overwhelming food motivation but either way it's a relief and an excitement to see this little hellion finally behaving!

That's great, Libster! I had a similar experience with my rescued cat. It took a while for her to calm down, but she really has become the sweetest happy cat, and has completely shed the behavioral issues that she had at first. Good luck, and I hope the little guy gives you lots of fun

Need ideas for names. I'm thinking Harry Potter or starbucks themed but will take all ideas No, I'm not kidding. He's a 16hh bay with a star if you need color to work with or ideas.

CONGRATS!! and the best part.... a TB eventer!!!!

As for names... i'm really picky... but check out wikipedia for an entire list of characters and what they do, or a list of spells, and lists of magical beasts... but an unpronounceable name is also a bad name :P

post a pic of him!!!

I had an awesome day at the clinic today. I got to watch a thoracic limb amputation, the first one I've seen! It was so, so cool and I got to put a lot of my anatomy knowledge to good use!

In a slight rant though, my mom's dog's lab results came back from his low-dex test, and he does have Cushings =( Time to start his medication therapy!

I just went on a trail ride. First one in two years. It was awesome!

It's sad that my friend doesn't ride her horse anymore and he only gets ridden now when he's needed in a lesson. But I do love that I then always have a horse to ride for free whenever I want when I'm in Germany. Like in those 8 weeks next summer!

Just don't have a picture of yourself using it as your profile picture on FB, doing some split leggy in the air type thing, in underwear and heels, and then wonder why people are accusing you of being a stripper.

This is a problem a friend of mine has - I don't have the heart to tell her that yeah, I would think she was a stripper too. Buh.
