Default 3.48 cGPA and 37N MCAT

Hey everyone I was wondering if i have any chances at all for MD schools.

My first question is does the major at all affect how medical schools look at your GPA? Some people say that Medcial are a lot more lenient on engineers then on regular bio, chem, or zoo majors but I also have heard that they don't care.

My Majors are Chemical Engineering and Bio Medical Engineering with a Chemistry minor

My current GPA is 3.48 with a science GPA of 3.54

My second year of college was bumpy GPA wise but for my junior year and now my senior year its been on the upward all A's maybe 1 B so far. I plan on apply the next cycle because I personally think that a late application looks really bad on my part and since I'm double majoring in two engineering fields it takes 5 years to graduate anyways.

I took the MCAT during the summer and made P/13 V/11 B/13 essay N

For EC's I have volunteer for 4 years at the local hospital during high school and I also work in the ER for almost 4 years too (I still work there) along with 40 hours of shadow time (MD and DO combined).

I'm trying to get into some research over the summer. Do you guys I have a chance for MD school? I don't mind going anywhere just in states; I don't want to go to any of the island.

I'll share with you part of a previous post that considered the question of
Engineering major GPA adjustment (from 12/3/09):

Engineering would be among the physical sciences for the purposes of AMCAS' classification and the physical sciences average a 3.52 for applicants (which is right in the middle) but average matriculants have a 3.66. The SDs between majors are also almost identical across the board. As SD=0.27, a CE major w/ <3.39 probably wouldn't get in anywhere and <3.12 makes it even less likely (worse than 98% of matriculants on GPA alone). A 30 on the MCAT would also be quite a bit below the average score for a matriculant w/ a CE major (mean=32). For whatever reason, they are, if anything, actually harder on physical sciences people (the average PS applicant has a 29.7, btw).
That said, I think you have a decent chance at an MD acceptance stats-wise (70ish%) due to the recent upward grade trend and outstanding MCAT score, provided you apply broadly to lots of schools, including safeties, have strong LORs, intriguing Personal Statement and essays, and decent interview skills.

Your EC list could use some work, though. Your clinical experience is terrific, but the shadowing could use some augmentation, as about 50 hours is average and you have the time to get in closer to 60-80, split among a few types of doc, hopefully including one office-based primary care physician. If you have no nonmedical, noncampus community service, try to get some in if you can. The planned research is nice, but won't be very substantive at the time you apply since you'll just have begun it. Be sure to include pertinent updates in letters you'll send schools thoughout the cycle. Teaching and leadership are valuable to your application; do you have either of these? And don't forget hobbies, sports, and artistic endeavors.
