If I wanted to send a letter of interest, should I just send it to the update email address (medadmit@gwu.edu). I have no interviews in the area and no plans to go to D.C. in the near future, just want to send a letter telling them I'm interested.

That's where I would send it. Especially because it's a pre-interview invite. Are you on hold though?

they're going to send you an automated "thank you for your update we added your update to your file" email

That was what happened with me... the status didn't update for ~one week after I received the interview invite.

wow no one in your school calls you a youngin'?

You are like 3-5 years younger than errbody in your college class most likely.

Default most significant non academic and way

For the first question of this secondary...would it be terrible to put in an activity (a volunteer trip) from high school...would this seem like I did nothing of notable measure in college?? this is also something i wrote about somewhat in my PS...so maybe i should just leave it out and find something else? but i feel like putting volunteer work in the hospital might be exactly what everyone else does? thoughts or advice please!!

Putting something from high school on a secondary app because you have nothing from the past 3+ years isn't going to do you any favors in trying to stay competitive as an applicant.

For those of you that had interviews already, what time do you think I should schedule my bus or train ride home? The e-mail says that the day ends at 2:30, but should I give myself a couple of hours in-between?

Thanks!

How much of an impact did it have on you? I talked about some work I did senior year of high school and before college, because it was very significant to me becoming a doctor.

Got interview invite on 9/2 for 10/25! First interview so far for me this cycle.

35T MCAT, 3.75 cGPA, sGPA a little on the weak side, so I'm really, really happy.

Well, most people wouldn't guess how old I am unless age somehow comes up in a question, and I actually state my age hahaha. Until then they think I'm a normally aged college kid. Then they say I'm young, but never "a youngin"...must admit that youngin' sounds a lot cooler!

For those who have interviewed here already...how did the closed file go for you?

also, if it's closed file are they allowed to ask about your numbers (i.e. gpa/mcat?)

The closed file interviews were straightforward and not at all aimed to be stressful. Because the interview is only 25-30 minutes and they know virtually nothing about you beforehand, I was asked questions such as "So tell me about yourself", "Why Medicine?", and when I mentioned an EC/involvement they were interested in, "Tell me more about XYZ". It felt mostly like a conversation about who I am, what I am/have been involved in, and how I am sure medicine is the right career choice for me.

As for asking your stats, I wasn't asked mine. However, I'm not sure if they are "allowed" to ask or not.

Hope this helps! Good luck in your interviews!

Who is this question directed to? I submitted my letters to AMCAS and about a week later got the interview invite...not sure if I was ever "on hold"? and roughly 10,000 apply and 1000 get interview invites. Also remember everyone gets secondaries aka everyone gets to become "complete"

MCAT/GPA didn't come up in my interviews; I think the interviewers were more concerned with assessing why GW and how you fit into the school and their mission. Overall, I was impressed with the school and could see myself going there!

my experience was directly from high school and i got an interview, not that that is a huge accomplishment, but i doubt someone would discount you simply because you wrote something meaningful from 3-6 years ago.

Has anyone else been asked for a letter of good standing? (im currently in graduate school)

Could someone atleast please tell me what a letter of good standing is and how I might obtain one for GWU? They asked me for one and I have never heard of this and neither have any of my professors. I'm still waiting for GWU to email me back.

Check with the Registrar or Student Conduct Office. They usually can give you one. If your grad school has an undergrad college with a premed advising office ask there too.

they interview 1000 people out of 14,000 application...thats insane..so if you get an interview you have like a ~30% chance of getting accepted (assume they accept like 300 people)..from 14,000----> to 300 WOW! lol

also how do they decide interview invite so fast?, like some people are complete on one day and get an invite the next day

I have an interview on Tues. 11/01/11 and I'll be staying at The George Washington University Inn, right next to campus on the night of Oct 31st and Nov 1st. Is anyone interviewing the same day interested in sharing the room with me? It's a reservation for two beds. female only please PM me if you're interested in staying only one or both nights. The first night rate is $204 and the 2nd night is $93 not including tax.

I also applied for the student host program, but I'm not sure if that will work out. But if I do get one, I'll let you know with plenty of time.

gluck everyone!

Interview tomorrow morning!

I'm terrified and ecstatic, both at the same time! Seriously loving the DC area, and looking forward to seeing the school tomorrow

so every time i email medadmit, they always reply "thank you for your update. it's been added to your application" (paraphrase). every time! even when i'm asking them a question.

does anyone else have this problem?

I asked them a question and they responded, but yes, that's how the email started. I'm pretty sure its a template they use to reply to all of us neurotic premeds sending them application updates...and they just add on info as necessary. I would say give them a call if you have an urgent question maybe? Good luck!

GW has the worst application process, GW doesn't reject people and let them move on with their lives. Instead they continue to place most people on "re-review" and just go through torture just to find out in the end that they got rejected lol seriously very classy.
