5. UC Merced San Joaquin Valley Program In Medical Education (http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/mdprogr...IME/index.html) track is a partnership with UC Merced and UCSF Fresno. This track aims to train physicians committed to improving the health and health care of populations, communities, and individuals in California's San Joaquin Valley. The first 2 years are conducted at UC Davis and include: the UC Davis Summer Pre-Matriculation Program; a community engagement project in the Valley; close mentoring relationships with program leaders; early longitudinal clinical experiences; and a curriculum on diversity, quality and population health. Third and fourth year clinical experiences occur in the San Joaquin Valley. We offer an optional fifth year of study leading to a master's degree. 7. The Rural-Program In Medical Education (http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/mdprogr...ime/index.html) track is designed for students interested in becoming physicians and leaders in a rural communities. Critical skills include becoming an effective patient advocate, leader, lifelong learner and skilled adapter of technologies to enhance rural medicine practice. Students will have unique opportunities to experience: longitudinal teaching and mentorship by rural physicians; seminars in public health, leadership, community engagement and cultural competency; immersion in rural communities for third-year clerkships and senior electives; and the opportunity to explore and utilize telecommunications technology.
