SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
The only problem is my MCAT is only a 33...my GPA is 3.9+ tho, and I have a ton of research....

How long does it take Pitt to retrieve LORs? AMCAS received it yesterday and I submitted the secondary yesterday. Any ideas on when to expect to be marked complete?

Question: For the diversity essay, should I talk about my experiences growing up in ny with a bunch of different cultures or coming to the US and learning a new language as a child?

Why not both? Talk about coming here and learning a new language/AND AND NEW CULTURE and then growing up in a multicultural/multiethnic society were diversity ran wild?

Yeah I like this approach. Your essay would definately have more impact if it had both angles represented.

been under-review since July 4th weekend - hopefully good news soon (cause they don't start handing out rejections until the fall...)

anyone else submit their secondary a while back (late june) and have yet to hear something? does the lack of response mean we are pretty much rejected?

While I applied last cycle, all I can say is, maybe your file isn't strong enough for an invite at this time. It doesn't mean you are rejected, it just means they're probably going to look over your file and compare you with future applicants for an interview spot. The people who get invites right away are the ones who they (Pitt) think are great fits and thus, they get the invites. I am just assuming here...but don't count yourself out just yet. It's a long year! Well for Pitt, interviews end in December, so you will know by then.

Has anyone gotten interview invites since 7/15? Seems kind of quiet. I haven't gotten one, which probably means I didn't qualify for the first wave of interview invites.

It also might be that the whole admissions staff is on vacation...

Probably not, lol.

I was wondering the same thing, it's been quiet lately. I've been complete since last week, I hope no news is good news?

I've been complete since 7/14 so I'm hoping to hear soon as well. I'd imagine they're busy with something else because they tend to have a pretty quick turnaround, and seeing as there hasn't been much activity, they must be pre-occupied with some other priorities.

Default Yay!

Just received the invite today...the quick turnaround is soo great. I don't think that they drastically changed their interviewing policies. I mean last year they interviewed roughly 1/5 applicants. So I think they just interview a lot of people. I think this early in the cycle and being SDN makes that seem like an even greater proportion.

They do interview a lot more candidates than most schools (1000/~5000 applicants according to MSAR), but I wouldn't go as far as saying an II is insignificant...

I completely do not share that sentiment. An II is an II. It probably just means that they are finding lots of people to interview now (but it's probably not increasing the total number of IIs that will be given out). In other words, the best candidates are probably applying early (with reason).

I feel you Matteo. Complete since July 4th too. Maybe they look down on people doing apps when they should be watching fireworks lol. Trying to remain optimistic. Things will feel a lot better once I get that first interview.

Anyone know what to do with hours for classes taken at a quarter-system school when filling out the prereq grid? Convert them to semester hours? Leave them as-is?

EDIT: After calling admissions today, I was told to just leave credit hours as they appear on AMCAS.

And i feel both of you (no homo). Complete for a week and a half now and have been checking the status thing like crazy. With so many people on here getting interview invites, it would suck to be left out of the party haha.

hopefully we all get good news soon.

(btw, big joe mauer fan, got him on a fantasy team, hopefully he has a good second half of the season)

Assuming that they interview and accept the same ratio of people...MSAR says ~1/8 matriculate from those who have an interview. I don't know what the yield rate for pitt is though.

I can't believe how many people have gotten in interview here! I guess they are very agressive at first and potentially slow down a lot later...I wonder if it was like this in past.

Interview invite! I submitted on 7/6, received my MCAT score on 7/19, and went straight from not complete to interview this morning. Really excited about this school.

I will be in the Pittsburgh area on 8/22, but that date is already full. Would it be out of line for me to ask if they could squeeze me in? I'd like to save a trip if I can.

Don't quote me on this, but I think I read they accept approximately 1/4 of the people they interview. That 1/8 matriculation figure is lower for obvious reasons.

According to this year's US News Data:

~20% of applicants are interviewed
~35% of interviewees are accepted
~43% of acceptees matriculate

Quick question: Are secondaries sent out once your AMCAS is verified or can applicants access it online? Thanks!

OK - I'm very confused. My AMCAS has been done/verified since early June and I haven't received a secondary from Pittsburgh. What am I missing?
