60.... That's all you need to know. You don't find out your official number just what fraction you fall into.

Keep in mind that when they say that about 60 come from the waitlist, that doesn't mean the top 60 from the original 240. People will be dropping out of the waitlist continuously as they go to other schools and drop out, decide to defer, decline the offer if taken from the list for some reason, etc. So really your position on the list is in flux.

I believe that is one reason they ask you to not call, because today you may be #73 but by May 15th you could be #57.

Good luck!

hi all, searched this thread for "fees" and got nothin - any current students around that can comment on how the fees/books part of the package is split up? 8k is the total, i'm sure insur is 2-3k of that, random fees to this or that maybe another 1k... do y'all really spend a ton on books or are there a lot of online resources you can use instead?

Looks like financial aid was released today. Question: what do you do if the Stafford Loan award amount is (significantly) less than the Cost of Attendance? I imagine this is the case for everyone. Is that what the PLUS loan is for? There is no way I can pony up the extra $$$$ myself!!

In response to Fizzgig, I have heard from students that the cost estimate for books is over-inflated but I can't speak to by how much ...

Yes Grad PLUS loans are available to fill that gap. The interest starts immediately once received and the rate is 7.9%.

I actually just got off the phone with them and they are the ones who gave me this info.

Also look into private loans. It seems like the interest rates are lower for those.

Obviously I'm not a current student, but I remember at the interview day tour there was that learning library thing where you can check out books (it was an office on the lower level of the main lecture place that had the lockers and computer testing labs, sorry I can't recall the bldg name right now). I vaguely recall someone saying that they only bought a couple books (I think it was a M4 that had said that).

I also recall hearing somewhere along that UT overestimates the cost of attendance so students have enough access to loan $.

I am accepted at St. George's University, so that is where I am heading pending a letter from UT. I haven't called to see where I sit as the waiting lists are very sporadic.

For Reference, here are the fees as posted by UT (I believe 2011-2012):
Program & Service Fee $396
Other Dedicated Fees $50
Technology Fee $200
Other Fees $2,230
Microscope Fee $53
Malpractice & Health Ins. $24
Books & Supplies $8,370
Total: $11,323

I meant if there was a number that goes directly to him. Maybe if you would have done more searching, you would see that this number seems to be the general office of admissions number.

Hahaha yeah. You call it and ask for strother like the rest of us do. If he wanted his number available to applicants he would have given it out. Maybe if you had tried calling you would have seen figured this out

There actually is a different number for Dean Strother that's on his business card...so if we could all chill out and stop being unnecessarily rude to kyc, that would be great.

i do believed i googled it for them. and they were rude to me, so they get rudeness back. i actually have strothers number over on my desk 5 ft from me but i got it by calling the admissions number and him giving it to me in a voicemail when i missed his return call. kyc could easily have contacted the office like the rest of us did. if a phone number isn't on the website, chances are that the person doesn't have it listed for a reason (premeds calling him all the time during the day). call diane in the office and you'll get connected.

Not trying to get in the middle of this, but Strother gave my entire interviewing group his business card with his line on it. You all probably already have it in your interview packet.

I called the Office of Admissions. It continues to ring a few times and go to voicemail, which is why I thought you guys could help me out. Clearly that was a mistake. Anyway, I just went ahead and emailed him. He responded within 10 minutes.

I'm just going to throw this out there...Strother's personal number is listed on the website. In fact, there's a very simple search bar on the uthsc website where you can look up the number of all UT employees. 901-448-5561. No need for drama, guys.

Thanks! I had just tried using Google and couldn't seem to find it. I didn't even try searching on there. But thank you very much! I appreciate it.

When people started getting acceptances, I was wondering if we could start some kind of list like this

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/show...=786024&page=7

It would be helpful to know where the school is, as far as accepting people from the waitlist.

or if you've already posted it and want to be included, just pm me and I can go back and find it. I don't just want to put people on the list if they don't want to be.

It wasn't a rejection though, so don't feel bad. And they might be internally switching people around, you never know.
