Hey s2dat10 thanks for the info. I'm assuming April 20th is the deadline given for the 2nd or 3rd batch of students that were accepted to reply whether or not they want their spot?

Then if I haven't received any email on acceptance or for the wl, am I pretty much rejected?

Not sure about the 2nd or 3rd batch but it is the deadline for students accepted to SD campus.

Pre-requsite questions.(sorry for too many questions, but it is time to register the summer courses.
Did the accepted students get the info from UMB whether you pre-requisites were fulfilled or not?
I have one issue in Biology(4 credits). I took general biology more than 5 years ago. According to school web page, there are time limits(5 years) in Chem, and Biology class. But in FAQ, there are exceptions for this time limit.
Are there any exceptions to the time limit for chemistry and biology courses?
.....
"The time requirement is counted from the most recent coursework taken - so, if you took your first course more than five years ago but you have taken higher level courses more recently, the coursework is considered current. "

I took Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology last year. Do you think these courses are regarded as "higher level courses" of Biology courses? Can my case be exception?

I emailed the school several time, but did not get any reply..

Did you call and ask Ms. Sharp your admission status? I was also waitlisted, but I did not know that until I sent her an email First.

I know I said earlier that I waitlisted for Baltimore. But fear of not getting into any campus forced me to ultimately stick with SG. I apologize for anyone on the SG list who thought they were one step closer.

I've been second-guessing myself all morning. If you knew your wl # before getting accepted, then you should have a pretty good idea of your chances. Ex. if you were originally number 5, I think your chances would be great at getting in Balitmore, but if you were 15, then you need to weigh your options/risks/confidence

What number are you on the waitlist?

That is the same justification I used for my decision. I am number 4 on the list which is why I decided to take give Baltimore a shot. Apparently there are 76 people on the wait list.

You were #4 before getting accepted into SG? And there are 76 total on wl for both campuses.. or just Baltimore?

Do you mind sharing your stats please?
I was offered admission to SG but I'm keen on getting into Baltimore since I wanna do PharmD/PhD
Dunno if I'd get offered admission at Baltimore if I decide to get on B's waitlist at this point

I"m surprised with such good stats that you're put on the wait list. This just goes to show how competitive UM really is!

I would call and ask but I'm pretty certain that you'll be fine. I haven't gotten any type of notification regarding my prerequisite coursework either by mail or email yet. I'm hoping to have the summer off for once

I had the same question (because my gen bio class was more than 5 yrs, too), so I called Ms. Sharp. She said I shouldn't worry about it since the time requirement can be waived with good science PCAT scores. Also, if you took higher level course recently, the time limit is also waived. So I think you will be fine But if you want to make sure, call the school.

Hey guys, I have a quick question regarding to the Certiphi screening.

I received an email a little while ago about requiring my information and my permission for background check by using the certiphi screening site. I completed a part of the required informations on the website. Today when I log back in, it gave me a message saying:" you will no longer need to complete your permissions and disclosure..... if you think it is an error, contact the school.....".
So does this mean the school I applied to no longer needs the information? or did I miss the deadline?

Thanks for your feedback.

I also have this same problem! The school told me to call Certiphi but they had me listed as only being accepted to Midwestern, which I already withdrew from. Ms. Sharp said she'd call to ask what could be done, but she warned beforehand that the school doesn't really have any power over the service. -__- I'm calling again on Monday to see what the heck I'm supposed to do instead.

Don't discredit the Shady Grove campus. You get the same learning opportunities as the students in Baltimore. Shady Grove students have gone on to do great things! We have been past Class Presidents (3!), SGA President, Rho Chi President, and any other positions you want to run for! All of the past 4 fellows at MedImmune (industry) are from the SG campus. For my class, 30% of the SG campus made it into Rho Chi (Academic Honor Society) vs. the 18% of the Baltimore campus. 4 of the 7 students accepted into the Johns Hopkins Clinical Track program are from Shady Grove. And, yes you can do a dual a degree program as SG student, I know students who have done MBA, JD, and MPH. Remember, the campuses are only about 45miles/~45minutes apart...and with the opening of the ICC that connects i-95 and 270 it makes it convenient to travel between the two campuses. I know many students who make the drive up to Baltimore (once a week) to do research (there is also research down here in SG and with the possible hiring of 3 new faculty members at SG it will opens it up more!) It really is all about what you make you it. You are not defined by your campus, but what you want to do! Remember, we are two different campus but still only ONE school.

Last year there were some specific discussion threads within the facebook group for shady grove questions and baltimore questions. There was also a separate facebook group for just the Shady Grovers, but I'm not sure if that was made yet this year.

We have an active private fb group for both campuses. There's not a separate one for SG as far as I know.

Default Help!!!!!

Hi everyone,

I'm a sophomore at the University of Maryland, College Park, applying to UMB for Fall 2013 early decision. I really appreciate this thread, and everybody who has been willing to share their stats.

I am now extremely nervous however because a lot of you seem to have excellent stats, having pharmacy experience and really good PCAT scores, but are getting waitlisted. So here's the deal:

I don't have any direct pharmacy experience -- the closest thing is that I will be volunteering at a pregnancy center and maybe consulting new mothers on medications that they should be taking (its not really at a PHARMACY though)

I will be a study session leader at my school (kind of like a TA) for orgo I this fall.

I have spent 2 summers interning at 1) the FDA --- where I am in the process of co-authoring on a paper and 2) a private biopharm. company, both places I just did cancer research in a lab

I have 3 letters of recs -- one from my orgo professor, one from my supervisor at the FDA, and one from my anatomy professor

My PCAT score is ~79 percentile, with chemistry 91 and biology 74

My GPA is 3.8-3.9

UMB is really the only school I want to go to and nobody ever responds to my comments on the WAMC thread. PLEASE I would appreciate any feedback on my chances getting into UMB.

THANKS! sorry for the long post.

I'd say you have a great shot at an interview. My only question would be why pharmacy school instead of a Phd program?

I would have gotten more pharmacy experience if I had the time, but it's really hard to work in a pharmacy as a freshman/sophomore who basically just entered college. I do what I can to apply for internships in the biomedical field. I've noticed a lot of applicants have many years on me, so I think they've had a better shot at securing a pharmacy position.

Thanks for your reply!
