Good advice + read

Ultimately, it is TCN's own decision. I just wanted to try to give as many perspective as possible. This is definitely a big decision, and we wouldn't want one aspect that seems like a big deal at the time to sway him into a direction he will regret later down the road. Then again, both schools are terrific and you will become a dentist regardless so you can't really go wrong with either.

GL deciding. Hopefully the rest of us will hear something soon.

From what I've been looking into, Chino Hills seems to be a nice area. Pomona, from all that I have heard is quite rough. A lot of good information comes from the students on the Western facebook group. I am thinking about trying to get there right around the first week of August. It seems as several of the surrounding cities outside of Pomona are better. Make sure to join the facebook group! http://www.facebook.com/groups/304076536293059/

I went to the area saturday to check out several potential apartment complexes. Chino Hills is Okay, but Claremont is really really nice. Chino Hills is a newer community with all the normal chain stores you would expect in a middle class neighborhood. Claremont is older with unique architecture and a great downtown with a hipster meets college town meets artsy vibe.

Call. Typically on Thursdays or Fridays. Information will then be mailed after the call if I'm not mistaken. You have 15 days to put down a deposit.

Although, last rounds of acceptances for wait-list students was on Monday. One or two people heard back on Thursday/Friday, then a few more on Monday.

I'm thinking since the last and 2nd deposit is this weekend, acceptances won't come again until next Thursday/Friday.

That is the million dollar question. If I knew, I'd be rich. Unfortunately, I'm not rich.

Scroll up to previous pages. The numbers I gave were based purely on people who posted on SDN, so take with a grain of salt. I'd imagine they actually accepted more since SDN pool is not representative of national pool. Crossing my fingers for this Thrs/Fri or next Thrs/Fri.

Hi guys,

I am a Canadian pharmacist who will be relocating to Cali in the summer to attend DO program Western. If you have a place to rent, I am interested as long as it has a max of 2 bedrooms. I am male and single.

Good luck with your application!

Congrats!

This is the first time I've heard of snail mail before call. Maybe they're not doing calls anymore? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Good job Parv!

To everyone else,

Edit: Parv, do you mind telling us when the letter was postmarked? Maybe more should be expecting letters soon. I'd imagine if only a few people got in, then they'd call. If they accepted a lot, they just send a mass letter.

It seems like you're barking up the wrong tree. SDN probably isn't the best place to find a new pad. Most Western programs have a class facebook page. We have a few listings on the dental class page (http://www.facebook.com/groups/304076536293059/). Also, if you're already admitted, check out the listings on BanWeb. There are also two apartment complexes adjacent to the campus, the Metropolitan and the Helix.

Good luck

Good thinking.

There are currently 66 Facebook members in the "official" C/O 2016 page.

I think when I went for the interview, they said something about having 79 seats? Although if I remember reading somewhere, they actually take about 100. Could anyone verify either numbers?

Hopefully it's around 100, that means the class still has some way to go.

I don't know why but I remembered the number of seats available being less than the previous class statistics. On Western's website, 76 were enrolled for C/O 2015. I believe I remembered the Dean said something about offering only 69 seats this year??... Or was it 79? I remembered 69 seats for some reason. This was to allow for efficiency and having enough seats for everybody and any side procedures/training they wanted to do. Correct me if I'm wrong, of course.

For the Facebook group... keep in mind that a lot of those members are not exactly upcoming students. Some are actually students from other classes who want to meet or help out.

I hope things turn up, and we see more movement!

Good point - I did not check to see what years the students were, just looked at the total number. Hopefully, it is significantly lower than 66.

I don't have the packet they gave us during the interview at school with me but I'm pretty sure the number they quoted (I had it written down) was 79. Again, as mentioned before I thought I read somewhere (albeit unofficial) they accept about 100.

But as you have said, best we can do now is and wait.

To everyone

68, 69, 76, 79

Something like that

Edit: Not mocking anyone, just so we are clear. Just that, I don't think anyone really knows. And from what people are saying, different people at the school have given us different numbers. I'm pretty positive that in my Pre-Dec interview, they said 79.

I called on Monday, but they couldn't say much-- only that they're probably finalizing and keeping track of who paid the deposits. No clue how many paid deposits.

However, the member Parvaz said his/her deadline for deposit is April 20th (this Friday). So maybe we can expect as early as Friday and the following week.

I hope there's good news...

Normally, they don't call until later in the day. It's still early (1PM EST here, so only 10AM in Cali).

I'd give it an hour or two to see if we have any more updates.

I know there was someone who got a call at 4:30pm before, so 30 minutes before they close for the day.

I was referring to the official interview/accepted thread for 2011-2012. I believe it's on the predent forum page toward the top(I'm sending this from my phone...normally I would attempt to attach a link). From this website it doesn't appear that anyone was notified yesterday.

For those of you waiting anxiously, I hope you hear good news soon!

I got a call from Western on March 6th (a Friday) at 4:30 pm Cali time. I had been accepted off the wait list (it's still my only acceptance). I'm sure one of you will be getting a call either tomorrow or Friday in the evening since there is at least one spot open as of yesterday! Hopefully I can call you my classmate soon! Best of luck to you.

Thank you for the info

However, March 6th has been almost 2 months ago now. A few have been accepted since then, so take that with a grain of salt. With that said, GJ on the acceptance

After browsing old threads, it seems that those selected from the waitlisted may be chosen at random, especially since the list is not ranked.

Peerless mentioned something about this as well back in 2009 when he spoke with university officials during a tour with his predental club. I'll try to find the link. You can do a search in the forums too.

This is all speculation and should be taken with a grain of salt. Things could have changed a lot since then.

We are just playing a losing game here - many schools have unranked waitlists.
People have come up with different theories, but none of them are proven (obviously) and no one really knows.

Ones I've heard were:
1) Completely random
2) Ones who show the most interest
3) Ones to most resemble the student dropping out
4) Re-evaluate to find the "best student" in terms of GPA, DAT, EC, and LORs

Which is true? Who knows.... My bet is actually on the 4th one. They don't have a ranked waitlist, but that doesn't mean they won't rank you when they choose which student to select. That is to say, they get an "unranked" pile of waitlist applicants, then unofficially rank them to accept.
It will be an interesting read though if you can pull up the thread.
At least it's something to do while we wait. Tomorrow (or today rather) is Friday! Hopefully we'll be hearing some good news!
