Timing-wise, my rejection (if I get it) might come right before a week and a half Costa Rica trip. Not sure if it'll be useful to get my mind off the rejection or dull the whole trip... we'll see.

You've got other schools, though! Beast your final and show the other vet schools you're awesome.

Im in the same boat as your guys. 3/7 for me. It is so upsetting to see others getting interviews and acceptances and wondering why you haven't gotten either. After how hard you've worked just to be confidant enough to submit your application, getting no positive feedback is so painful: especially as a second timer. I can't decide if it's better to have SDN this year to know what I should be expecting, or not having it last year so I wasn't prepared for my rejections. Hopefully We will all be looking back on these posts in a few months as vet students!

Default deposit

So i know most of the posts are about waiting and waiting and waiting and stalking the email (which yesterday 12/7 is the first i haven't and i just shut it off)... well today/yesterday i finally got the waiting part over with, that lovely acceptance email came.. I have to pay my deposit which is all fine and dandy except I've been given three days total. acceptance email on the 7th.. money due the 10th.. clearly not enough time to scrape up that kind of money and no way to pay it with a credit card online. pay by ... check.. money order.. or pay more for the fabulous wire transfer.. sigh.. little more stress added to the whole scenario though some relieved from the waiting

That stinks, but I think we all wish we had that problem . I saw your post in the acceptance thread, though, you start in Jan? I would be freaking out more about that! That is like 2 and a half weeks away . I think I'm gonna need a little chill time between finding out I'm in and actually starting. Time to find out where to stay, check out the campus some more, plus just relax and not think about school at all!

deg-Did you apply to other schools which you're still waiting to hear from? If so, can't you somehow get yourself put into the St. G class that starts later, in the fall or something. It doesn't seem fair to have to make a decision when you don't know everything yet. On the other hand, if it's the only place you applied, then go for it...jump right in!

Edit: didn't realize it was SGU until bisbee just posted. Now that they're accredited, shouldn't they be bound to the Mar 15 deadline or whatever it is that all the other schools are? Or is it different just because they take students to start more often? I guess if school's gonna start for spring semester, then it makes sense (it would be too late to wait for other schools anyway).

Default only one basket for all of those eggs

Did anyone else only apply to one school? Being in-state and owning a house in Madison with my fiance, it was Wisconsin or bust. But now everything hinges on this one school, I feel so anxious.

I only applied to three, but I know how you feel...only 3 baskets. So many people applied to many schools, but I really don't want to move that far away from everyone in my life. I need the support of my family and to be able to see them whenever.

I applied to 7 schools but all are within a day's drive of home - I want to go to my IS school so I can be close to home and see my fam whenever I need to. But I figured it was worth throwing my hat into the ring on other schools just in case.

I also own a home in my state with my husband - we currently don't have any plans for what we will do when I get in - we've decided to wait to make any decisions till we have all the information we can. Then try and figure out what to do - luckily we have family near by so if we need to we can rent our house out and they can be there to help with that. We've also talked about me going wherever I get in and doing the first year by myself and he would stay in our house. He's also looking at PhD programs at the universities I've applied to - found a really great one at my IS school - so we're really hoping I get an interview there.

We also own a home here in New York state, so I'm hoping for Cornell. My kids are grown and living in Maryland and New Jersey, so I want to be within a day's drive of them, too, as I am now. Fingers crossed and good luck!

Okay - I am starting to get some serious anxiety about hearing back from MSU. Mostly because I know that if I am getting a rejection it will be coming in the mail any day now...

Just some background info (so I seem a little less crazy, hopefully?) this year I applied to vet schools and my boyfriend (love of my life) applied to law schools this year...So of course we tried to apply to the same schools or schools in the same area.. MSU, Tennessee, and UPenn are really the only schools I can go to and still live with him.

And of course I would be lucky to go to any vet school... I've just hand long distance relationships before and I know how difficult they are. And I think that this added anxiety of worrying about our future together is really starting to weigh down on me ON TOP of worrying about vet schools. *sigh* okay, deep breath. I know a lot of people have it so much worse than me... but that is my admissions/personal rant - SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME DAMN SUPPORT BEFORE I BREAK DOWN... please

Spoon-Don't worry...although there are so few vet schools, there are so many law schools it seems (my son is in his 1st semester of law school himself right now, so I know about the whole law school admissions thing). Your boyfriend should be able to get in somewhere reasonably close to where you get in, so don't worry so much. And as we all keep saying, it's so early in the admission cycle. Let's try to relax and enjoy the here and now (Solstice, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanza, etc.)

I know.. you are right, I should be focusing on the holidays and happy things. I think was frustrates me most, is that I applied to 10 schools - yet he is being pretty picky and kind of resistant as to where he wants to apply (as he should when there are so many)... but as a result, we don't really have to many options for living together in the future kind of frustrating

The law school cycle is pretty much rolling admissions. My son didn't even get his applications in until late January last year and still got to go to his first choice law school (where he's actually sweating out his first semester final exams right now). Your boyfriend can still put in applications early next year after you see where your interviews and acceptances are. Don't worry...it's just the uncertainty that is hard right now. But it will all come together for you both.

Sounds like he is adding to your frustrations. You should talk to him about it. Tell him that you really love him but are worried about what a lt would do to the two of you and see what he has to say. I hate to say it because I know I would be frustrated hearing it myself, but if the two of you are meant to be, then you will work it out even if you have to be apart for a few years. Think of how unhappy you would be if he made it impossible for you to follow your dream and try to relate to him.

I know!! I know that if it's meant to be the distance won't really matter... I've tried to talk to him about it a few times and he just kind of changes the subject and says he 'doesn't even want to think about it right now'... it's not that far off! men.

Well, since this is a support group, ME NO LIKE REJECTION!!!!

There. I said it. Even though I knew it was coming yesterday, the rejection from LSU still stings. I know some of you guys just got your Illinois rejections too. Misery loves company!

My boyfriend and I are going through the same thing. Except part of the deal of me moving to upstate (FREEZING) NY from FL (Yes, I'm crazy in love with this man lol), was that when I get into vet school he would transfer with me for the four years. We own a house which is making him now think he shouldn't come with me... either way, being a veterinarian is what I chose to do with my life long before I met him, and sometimes you have to do what's best for yourself! He is starting to change his mind a little now. I applied to Cornell only to make him happy/ quiet lol. (We live about an hour and a half away) I have no chance of getting in there, but it made him feel better so I spent the extra $150.

Ten more, so all is not lost. My med friend had it worst. He had rejections from 20 schools, had an interview at 1, got on the waitlist, and got accepted two weeks before school!!

Hmm, lets see. One official rejection (Illinois), one likely (Mizzou), one probable but unknown (KSU) and three that won't notify till the new year.

Totally started freaking out thinking the school I took my online animal nutrition course from was going to charge me $40 to send my transcript to Glasgow. Thankfully, I read it incorrectly.

- I applied to ross as well and got an email last week that i was offered an interview but still waiting for the when and where (also jan class). I didn't apply to state schools because with a gpa from my BS being a 2.5 from my associates 3.4.. pretty sure it wasn't going to happen that and i missed OSU's deadline who agreed to go over my application (needed the gre taken by july and didn't take it til sept) I thought about starting later but then my financial aid will go down from making more money from current job and my undergrad loans from school start this month and are definitely more then my tech salary pulls in

Dear [insert your name here]: Hi, I know we've never met before. But I just want you to know, I am sending you love, hope and light from where I am. I am praying that you have the strength to power through til the end of this application cycle. I need you to take time to rest and relax at least on Christmas (the adcoms won't be sending anything that day [I hope]). I will never stop believing in you. Please keep living (& fighting) til you get where you need to be. Even if it isn't where you imagined or what you wanted, appreciate it. (I can relate to your suffering because I did all of this last year. It's still fresh enough to give me an anxiety attack It sucks even more this year though cause I'm trapped in deferment limbo).

Love,
kaydubs

P.S. I felt pretty helpless yesterday. I wanted to do more for each one of you. I hope this is enough for now. I'll keep trying!
P.P.S. I'm not on any drugs or other substances. I get my highs from chocolate and being alive.

thanks kaydubs.

Finals week. yuck. It hard too because the mood on campus is so off, if finals weren't bad enough, the tragedy yesterday made everyone even more somber and sad (I go to VT). Rough week, please keep the hokie nation in your thoughts and prayers.

I keep going on sdn as a studying distraction. It's freaking me out that my grades this semester have such a huge impact on whether I get in or not! VMRCVM looks pretty heavily at your last 45 and they include fall semester in your 45... I'm unfortunately sitting right on the edge in most my classes. Almost all my finals are the difference between an A or a B. Hang on, stay tough, and let's kick butt on our finals guys. We can do this. I'm rockin' out to some positive music and praying a lot.

I'm going nuts here. Western is supposed to send out their first batch of invites this week, MIssisippi is supposed send out their invites before they go on break (Friday), and TAMU said everyone would know their status by the 22nd. Seriously? In the next 10 days, I'm either going to be really happy, bi-polar, or incredibly in the dumps. I went on a trip to NYC this weekend to see my favorite musician in concert (*cough*twice*cough*), and while it was an incredibly epic experience and a great distraction...now I'm back at home and worrying about all this again. I'm not going to have a hair left on my head by Christmas Eve.

I'm doing the same thing - this is my last evening being "allowed" on SDN and my husband has been put in charge of my email and checking snail mail. He will be keeping any information to himself until I'm done with my last final next Monday.

I was going crazy trying to figure out how I was going to cope with a rejection from my IS (Purdue) if I get one this week (they send everything out before the end of the semester). I have 5 finals and they are almost back to back - starting Wednesday.

On the suggestion of my sister I am going off the grid - minimal internet - no SDN, no email, no Facebook - Just focus on finals - I know it will be tough but I think it will be easier than the stress waiting has had on me. And the basic general fear of another rejection letter is looming (despite attempts to stay positive), and this semester is my last chance to really show them what I'm made of - so I have to kick ass.

So I'm off to bed after a VERY long day of studying - ready to start my week of cyber silence, focused studying, and constant praying that my husband will give me good news on Monday evening.

Good luck on finals everyone!! And good luck with waiting!! Fingers crossed invites await you!!

haha going off the grid. I remember doing this before graduating from my main UG school. Now that I only have two prereqs from state and community college and have very high grades in both classes and need to absolutely bomb the finals not to get an A, my motivation has taken a hike. Hence why I'm still on here and not studying. Almost tempted not to, but then I'd feel stupid, esp b/c one's biochemistry.

Good luck everyone!!!!!

totally know how you feel -- taking physics II at a community college right now and literally could fail the final (and depending on the degree of failure) get an A/B

REALLY BAD because my motivation is ZERO right now. as in, i have my final TOMORROW and have not studied really. planning on beginning in about an hour and pulling an all nighter if needed. as in, haven't really read the textbook or paid much attention in class since the last midterm...sigh.

For once, I am happy that interview invites for me do not arrive until March. It makes it very difficult to move on to my Plan B, but at least I am not stressing over it during finals. Good luck everybody! Please do not stress out to the point where you bomb your finals. Plleeeaaassseee.

Good Luck to everyone taking finals this week....This is my second year out of school, so no finals for me..... But I remember how stressful it was the first year with finals and waiting. And then the following semester having to juggle school and interviews. Good Luck with those finals and try to not let the waiting interfere with studying (I know easier said then done).

Default bio major

I am currently a biology major. I want to apply to vet school after I recieve my degree in Biology. I am nervous that I will not get into vet school and if I don't get into vet school i HAVE NO idea what I would do. What kind of jobs are out there for a bio major with a animal concentration?

Yeah I ran into that wall big time. There really isn't much out there for someone with a bachelor's in biology. I ended up working as a research assistant/tech in biomedical research, and it was a great experience! Those entry level research positions are easily found if you live in an area with lots of universities, academic hospitals, and industry/pharma, but I hear it can be kind of hard to find if you don't live in an area with much research going on. Most research facilities have a revolving door of animal care technicians in laboratories, but it's not the most pleasant of jobs and it takes a certain character to make it last (and hence, the revolving door).

You could always try and work at a vet hospital as an assistant, and that would help your vet application too. It's a lot easier to find a position if you're available full time for a long period of time, than if you're looking for a part time position as a student.

I haven't heard from any of my schools. I am starting to wonder if I just dreamed up the whole application process, or put the wrong email down

Default Tamu

Somewhat related...

I'm frustrated that for LSU and for Texas A&M, my average, last 45, and science GPAs are so different!

For LSU, one says upper end of 3.68, for the same value at A&M, it says 3.4. No wonder not many OOS applicants get into TAMU.

Oh man...I could never go off the grid during finals weeks. I think I'm actually on the internet MORE during finals week cos I like to procrastinate! Luckily, I don't have to take 3 of my finals (cumulative and I have an A), one of them I took yesterday and my ochem final isn't til Wed...then one more final the following week for an online anthro class but I'm comfortable with that!

I was freaking out about ochem, but then I realized that I don't think she'll grade the finals....her average grading time in a month, and she's still working on lab reports, then she has to grade our last test, then she has to grade our final lab reports and our final test, and grades are due on Friday....so I'm not too too nervous, because I don't think she'll get around to them anyway, and I have an A in the class right now.

I'm still going to study! Just not going to stress and study

I graduated with a B.S. in Biology two years ago (pre-vet track) and am currently working for Bristol-Myers Squibb in their research and development department. I make good money and love what I do. Like Minnerbelle said though, a lot of it has to do with location. When I first moved here I was a lab tech at a dairy company doing quality control work. And when I first graduated college I was a environmental field scientist working in the FL Everglades while bartending to actually bring home money lol. There are tons of things you can do with a biology degree, but you'll have to be lucky to get paid well :-/. It's all what you make of it! Best of luck! Hopefully you will get into vet school right away and not have to worry about it!

New admission-related worry:
I was reading back over my veterinary school application, and I realized there was a typo. I had read over the entire thing a few times before submitting, so I can't believe I didn't catch it. I put a verb in the wrong tense in a description on my list of veterinary experiences. I hope the schools will overlook it, but I can't help but be very disappointed in myself.

Seriously, don't worry about it. Unless you had multiple typos, or it seemed obvious that you were lacking in the grammar arena, I don't think anyone will really care. I've mentioned this a couple times, but I totally wrote Fetal-Plus instead of Fatal-Plus, and may have said a few extra Fetals throughout my apps. I didn't even catch it until I said the same thing on SDN and someone pointed it out. I was doing a lot of work on mouse development at the time... so it just seemed natural to me.

Agreed. I actually read over my essays from last year's application and noticed some mistakes, but I don't think it really had a negative impact on me. None of the schools mentioned anything about poorly written personal statements...they actually seemed to like them.
