I would if I could! And I would be doing the exact same thing if I was in your position. Just hang in there and try to do your best on your neuro final, because that, you are in control of.

Im so sorry I hate crying in public! Super sucky timing on Purdue's part! What kind of mean school sends out denials during finals week. Stay strong you still have more schools!!!

Sorry to hear that. No question it suc*s.
Try turning the tears to anger. I find anger is a more enabling emotion!

Awww, I am so sorry! Finals week is not the time for a rejection! Not that any time is, but you know what I mean. Try to stay positive and get studying . Purdue's loss and hopefully you'll get some good news elsewhere soon.

 I'm so sorry. I know this won't make you feel better but...maybe this is for a greater reason that we can't see yet. I'm truly sorry, sweetheart. If you want, I'll send you a care package, hand delivered, with any comfort I can possibly give.

public crying: shows you have a heart that you're able to cry. It's okay to fall apart as long as you remember why you need to pick yourself back up. I'll say an extra prayer for you for now til I can get that package together!!

Put the rejections from Purdue behind you and revel in the holidays. You will be okay, and life will get better soon.

i did the same thing in high school when i got rejected from my top choice university. i cried for days. i cried when i found out in front of all my friends (we were on a school trip). the thing was, back then i couldn't drown my sorrows.

have an irish coffee (or 2 or 3). wallow for a little bit. eat lots of ice cream, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes...comfort food.

sooner or later...you'll be OK.

Laphroaig? No thanks, too peaty for me. I'm currently on a Benromach kick. Old Pulteney and Scapa are always good, too, and I managed to get TWO bottles of the OP 21 yr old that was named World's Best Scotch this year. Worth it.

Scotch on the rocks is a SIN.

I'm just super sick of being rejected, after 3 years of this, especially since I got my hopes up for Purdue this time. Then I got a REALLY nice email from one of the vets I work with and it made me cry more.

I'm sorry to both you and Jemappellejane!! I know both of you applied at a number of places, so with luck good news will roll in soon.

With regard to Laphroaig, it's that peaty taste that makes it awesome. Believe it or not, I am sipping some right now. It makes physiochem easier to study somehow.

Blech, I can't stand the peaty stuff. Tastes like burnt Wellies! I go for Speyside and highland malts, personally.

I emailed my prof to tell her that I have an appointment during exam time and if she did not want to accommodate me, I could try my hardest to arrange to go to the one opening they have next week. I have not heard from her, so that gap for me taking the Tuesday appointment has now closed. I have no other way to get in contact with her.
I have never had to miss a final exam before. It is stressing me out. The fact that I could receive a 0% for not showing up is stressing me out. The only thing I can do it show up incredibly late with a doctors note in hand. I don't know.

Time for a late breakfast, coffee and studying.

Trematode, have you tried contacting your dean? It might be worth a shot. Usually, these things are done at the discretion of the professor, but contact from the dean is a very good incentive for an otherwise unresponsive prof to get back to you. And if it comes down to coming back late with a doctor's note in hand, you will have something documented already about your problems.

I am going to throw this out as someone who gives finals and is aware of the faculty 'thought-process': was this an emergency or urgent appointment? If not, the faculty member may be ignoring the email simply because finals are scheduled really far in advance and you should have (in their mind) scheduled the appointment around the final. She should have responded to you, yes. But this may be her view. The university (dean's office) would likely back the faculty member in this case.

Just a thought.

She got back to me. All she asked is if I heard back about an appointment.
And... *the plot thickens*... I am going to the ER now because light now makes me eyes hurt. I was told to go see someone ASAP if this happens. So I told her that I was heading to the ER now.
The specialist insisted I come in on Friday (during my exam time) because my vision is at risk.
Contacting the dean is a good idea. My prof seems pretty understanding but she is a very busy woman.
I just have to print off the notes of my laptop... I am in the great white north, so I could be there for hours.
For some reason, she made all of the epigenetics notes on a black background, so for the sake of ink, those are not coming with me.

I'm so sorry you are going through all of this scary stuff Trematode. It is so important to take care of your health first, because without it you would have nothing. I hope things start to look up soon! (Should I not say "look"? I feel like that was insensitive lol)

On another note, I found this and think everyone should read it (at least the headings). A lot of the things apply to us right now lol....

I did not mean to drop all of my medical stresses in one thread. Thank you for the support. It makes me feel a lot better. .

I had a scratch on my cornea (thank goodness). They put freezing drops in my eye... and well, the words on the screen are not going in and out of focus like they were! Yay. I am going to take advantage of that and CRAM tonight.

I was given the option to write tomorrow morning or Monday. I told her I preferred Monday (I lost some time getting in to see a doctor and this is the course I am worried about doing well in because I made a big error on our second test). I told her I will cram tonight while I can still see and that if she prefers I write tomorrow, I will check my email later for a time.

It has been a little stressful because apparently retinal detachment is a BIG DEAL (if that is what I have). So I was told to take my symptoms seriously because my vision could be on the line (you guys told me this as well!)
I also have never missed a final exam before for medical reasons. I am at a new university with new profs this year. I am just afraid of coming off as whiny (I cannot read as well as other people, I need an extension, whaaaaaa). I know that not being able to see clearly has affected me studying for this exam, so I have done the best that I can do given the circumstances. If the professor wants to test me now, then fine, I will go into the final and write it to the best of my ability. An extension would be nice, but I feel a little guilty accepting it because it is not like my vision made it so that I could not study at all. If that makes any sense.

I am going to get some more coffee in me and hit the books. . My fingers are still crossed for all of you guys. Stay healthy. Do well. Do not freak out. Do not let any disappointments get you down. If vet school is what you really want, you will get there eventually.

I'm getting the DB error as well. Anyone going on an interview and staying at a Motel 6? I got a 10% discount promo if I book between now and 1/31/12 and I have nothing to use it on - PM me if you could use it?

I was thinking I was the only one with issues on here. I've been having the same error come up and slow load time. I thought it was my laptop and restarted and reset the internet connection. Glad to know it isn't my computer!

Trema - hope you make a full, speedy recovery! (Eyes are so touchy...I never realized how grateful I should be to see til I had eye malfunctions...that explains part of the reason why I try to live gratefully anymore rather than just live )

hahahaha I kept getting errors yesterday. I thought, in addition to "breaking" my FB, I was also breaking my dial-up internets. (If you enjoy ridiculous, goofy humor, a suggestion: The IT Crowd. A British sitcom. I never tire of its ridiculity.)

My eyes are healthy! .
Unfortunately, the doctor does not know why I have blurry vision and flashing lights, so I still have to see my optometrist next week. He mentioned that it could be one of two disorders but he could not test for them because my eyes were dilated (I did get to freak my friend out with my eyes when I met up with her to study). I could only remember the name of one of the disorders and I looked it up. He thinks I might have a psychiatric disorder. . All I know is that my eyes have not worked well for ten months and stress does not make them worse. I just want it to be cured. I want to be a vet. I cannot be a vet if I have to squint at a patient file. I am happy though that nothing is physically wrong with my eyes. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

I have an exam in the afternoon tomorrow. Good night SDN.

Trem - I don't know if anyone has already brought this up or if you or your doctor has discussed it, but maybe the flashing light is really the aura experienced at the onset of a migraine. I've had migraines for years and always get a sparkly, flashy design in my eyes. This is usually also preceded by a blind spot and light sensitivity. Just a though. In the meanwhile, I'm so glad it seems that you don't have anything too serious.

I have chronic migraines (I get 10-15 a month unfortunately). When I had my major eye fiasco last app cycle mid-Jan to almost March, one eye doctor diagnosed me with chronic dry eye. Then another optometrist told me that I needed to get lasik to "cure" me. Needless to say, I'm back to doing the same old thing with my eyes . The migraines? That's a whole other issue that I'm still trying to get a handle on....another neurologist visit to figure out what to do now? Check. I, like Bisbee, have some auras to know when they're about to hit (I also get ones without warning...boo). I also respond well to these uber meds that my neurologist prescribed....but the chronic part? It's still pretty debilitating, I gotta be honest.... Just gotta keep my that we'll get to the bottom of this before I leave for Tufts next year.

The doctor mentioned it could be related to migraines. He found it a little odd though that I see flashing lights ALL of the time. Hopefully that is what that is. I also have a neurological disorder that has not been diagnosed. I am positive it is restless leg syndrome. It started a few months before I started having problems with my eyes. So I have an appointment with my family doctor do discuss it. Migraines run in the family. I still do not know if I am getting them because the only typical symptom I have is that medication does not take the pain away and they last usually a day.

I am so sorry you had to go all through that. . I will cross my fingers for you. . Being sick and not knowing what is wrong with you is NOT FUN. I hope they get to the bottom of it.

Thanks again, guys!

Meanwhile, I have ONE exam left. Yay. .

I will keep you in my prayers as well. Beware of video gaming - that gave me eye twitches for a brief period of time. Maybe lay off on those and contacts. I did that for a month and my "incurable dry eye" improved a great deal. Now I just respect my body's boundaries. Best of luck on the exam My neurologist told me to "lay off on stress and stop reading." I told him I was going to vet school. He apologized.

Thank you. And ditto. .

My optometrist told me to lay off caffeine and to look at things far away. 1) I am a student. I need a coffee a day or I risk falling asleep in class. 2) My job at the time consisted of spending a few hours a day looking into a microscope. Those were two things that I could not avoid!

So glad yours eyes are OK. I was worried for you!! Good luck with finals!!!

I'm about to get in my car and drive around nearby neighborhoods until I find the mail truck, which I am pretty sure contains my Missouri rejection letter. It is 6:15pm and my mail has not yet been delivered (we're literally like the last stop on the mail route). My face bears a striking resemblance to this little guy:

I just want the ad-coms to open up their eyes for once. Just once something to go right.
