Let's get this party started!

Deadlines are upon us and invites should be rolling in within the next few weeks.

Post your interview notifications so we can keep a running list of schools.

Example information:
School name
Program type/track (clinical, school, phd, psyd, child, adult etc.)
Date received
How were you notified (mass email, personalized email, phone call, from the DCT, from the POI, etc.)
Interview dates offered

I'll check this frequently and keep it updated!

Good luck to everyone!

EDIT: I was also thinking that this doesn't just have to be for formal interview invitations. I've heard of POIs/DCTs randomly calling applicants for a chat (how nice and not at all stressful). If you're contacted by the program for any reason, feel free to post it and I can include that information.

You are more than welcome to send me any invite information by PM if you don't feel comfortable posting on the thread. If you do this, please put the school name in the subject line. I'm getting a ton of PM's and this makes it easier to keep everything organized. Also please include your POI if you feel comfortable sharing. Thanks!

Important: Instead of spamming this thread asking for POI PM's, please just PM them yourself. If they don't feel comfortable answering, they won't and it'll keep this thread from getting cluttered

YAY! Although just reading your post made me nervous. These next couple of months are going to be rough. :scared:

Thanks for taking this on! I have no doubt I'll be a frequent visitor...and hopefully a poster. :)

What's the earliest date for the random calling to begin? early January?

I asked thin on another thread, and I hate to be a debbie downer but is someone going to start the rejection thread? I know no one wants to think about it, but after reading last year's rejection thread there was some helpful information about schools. If no one wants to take it on I understand.

I wouldn't mind doing it, but I think it's too early for that :) They wouldn't start rejecting us before sending out interview invites, would they?

Edit: When was the thread from last year created?

I remember being rejected by programs in December a couple of years back. Though last year's thread didn't start until Jan.

I went ahead and started it...

For schools with a deadline in November or Dec 1? I wouldn't have sent my applications in for half of the schools by the 2nd week of Dec...

Yes. I think the earliest I noticed was OSU's Counseling program (12/9). By the looks of it, it's pretty rare.

Ok let's see if this attachment feature works. I made up this "How Will I React When I get Accepted :highfive:/Rejected+pity+" flowchart. Just for fun... you know because I don't have enough to do during application time!! Ahh insomnia!
If you can't see the attachment, sorry, I'll try a different way to share it.

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to say good luck to everyone applying. This is my second year, and last years forum was super helpful...and a little anxiety provoking at the same time.

Good luck to all (except to you guys who are applying to the same schools as me...I hope you do well at other places ha ha ha.)

Very excited and anxious for us to start hearing back!!! I will be checking this thread daily haha.

Just wanted to see how everyone else felt about this. I'm super worried about random phone calls from POIs. I plan to do a lot of work before I go to the interview weekends, and I don't know how I'll be if they just spring a phone call on me. Is it ok for me to just not answer numbers I don't recognize, prepare myself and call back when I feel better about it. I'm just worried about screwing things up in some way if I don't do this.

If you're so worried about it you could just find out the area codes of the schools you are applying to. IF you get a call from that area then you can know whether or not to answer. Personally, I would try to pick up no matter what.

Now that I am not going through this process this year after successfully navigating it last year... this is going to be super fun to watch the neuroticism on this thread. (Kicks back in chair w/ a bowl of popcorn). That being said -- good luck to everyone.

Yes, of course, you can wait and call them back after you compose yourself. They don't expect everyone to answer every phone call.

Just FYI:

I saw that someone had applied to NIU's clinical psych PhD program. Their open house (aka, interview day) is February 15 and 16, 2012.

I meant to post this here.

The following is stated on Auburn's clinical psych program site.

"Our invitation-only Interview Weekend for applicants to our doctoral program will be held on February 25, 2012."

And for University of Maryland Baltimore County

"The 2012 Visit Day for applicants to the Human Services Program will be held February 23rd and 24th. Invitations to Visit Day will be extended on or about February 6, 2012.'

 I was accepted to my top choice program and jumped up & down like a little kid ... for days. I was so giddy that MY CHILD eventually chastised me and told me to calm down. Hell, I had to keep myself from squealing like a little girl. I do not have these types of reactions.

Yeah, I can't imagine that they would dock you at all, in any way, for not answering the phone when they get the whim to call you. Who has time to sit around and stare at the phone, anyway??

While I fully admit that I spent more than a little time last cycle staring at my phone willing it to ring, I highly suggest letting unknown numbers go to voicemail until you are prepped and ready for a conversation.

Last cycle I was sick with a horrible cold and sleeping when I answered a call from unknown number instinctively... it was a POI wanting to do an impromptu phone interview before offering actual invites. I fumbled over basic questions and in the end didn't end up getting invited for the in-person interview. Luckily it wasn't one of my top programs, but I have learned my lesson.

I had a letter in the mail today from one of the schools I'm applying to and freaked out. The deadline was yesterday! Of course, it was just a notification that they had not received my transcripts yet, and would review my application once all materials were complete. I mailed those transcripts last week, so I'm going to assume they just haven't sorted through all the paperwork yet (but will call on Monday to be sure). Still...heart attack moment. So dang jumpy!

Was playing around with my linkedin account just now and saw that one of my POI's looked at my profile. Freaking out with excitement because I pretty much designed my Linkedin account around the fact I thought POI's might be looking at it. Needless to say, it's chalk full of professionalism and positive stuff about how psychology is my life.

I know it's still mega early, but now I'm getting pumped. :D

That's awesome! I used to have a linkedin profile but deleted it once I started applying. It was basically just a reiteration of my CV so I didn't really think it was necessary.

I'm curious about what everyone has done with their other social media sites (facebook, twitter, blogs, etc). I changed all my names months ago to something that isn't traceable to me and made everything super private. I also routinely google myself with all kinds of combinations of my name and location to make sure nothing comes up. It's not that I'm hiding something, I'd just rather keep my personal life separate from my professional life.

I've actually made the decision to keep a lot of that stuff semi-open as I want to utilize my "personality" as something that sets me apart from other applicants. Granted, I'm censoring what I'm putting out there a bit more now, but I like the idea of POIs et al. being able to put a face to my name and having some sense of who I am. I was, however, disappointed to find another guy with the same name as me, living in the same city, whose Facebook and Twitter accounts show up prominently on a quick Google search. Hopefully it's obvious enough that this dude isn't applying for clinical psych programs anytime soon

Wow do admission committees go through the trouble to google search and facebook all the applicants? All I can think of is to change my profile picture on facebook (changed it to my graduation photo). Other than that, would else do we need to be aware of? My facebook is already on private, but I think some information still shows up regardless.

I think I should change my voicemail message as well to sound more professional...

Well, technically it is for 2011-2012 since we won't be interviewing in 2013. However, it is the 2012-2013 school year.

Whelp, guess I'm the first!

UC-Santa Barbara's combined school/clinical/counseling program recently contacted me to set up a time for a first-round Skype interview (eek!) with both of my POIs. I applied for the School track.

In other news, anyone have any tips for a Skype interview? It's a cool thing, but I've never heard of it being done.

Congrats!!

I did a skype interview for my current RA position. Wear a nice shirt/blouse, but don't wear pants. It probably won't help with the actual interview, but it makes for a great story when you do get accepted :)

Best of luck and keep us updated!

Congrats! Way to start off the season!

I've had about five Skype interviews (two of them resulting in offers) -- every time, it took about a good five minutes for me to realize that I'm actually in the middle of an interview and not just sitting at home in front of a computer. It's really strange due to the lack of the proper atmosphere and the sudden switch from sitting at home to being professionally interviewed face-to-face. I suppose my advice would be to set up in a place where you wouldn't normally relax or browse the internet (of course, checking to make sure that you background looks presentable) and instead find a location that makes you feel like you should be doing something productive - maybe find an office of some sort. Other than that, I think it's best to treat it like an in-person interview.

And yes, the pants are optional but I've always been afraid I'd stand up without thinking about it

I would just make sure you are in a place with EXCELLENT internet connectivity. My internet is a little spacy and consequently, I get disconnected from people all the time.

Wow, I can't believe we have our first interview invites!! Congrats to both of you! And good luck! :luck:

I am a little curious about this. I have made my fb super private (and changed my name), as well as deleted all stuff I have used in the past (myspace, livejournal, twitter, etc). However, even though I have an unusual name, there are at least two people out there with the same name as me, and their stuff are obviously still out there... I am starting to freak out that POIs will think that's me... after googling my name today, I have discovered that one some random (although innocent) hits. I hope POIs will not just assume that that must be me... ugh. Stupid internet, haha.

Is anyone else applying to Miami University? How can you see if all your application materials are in?

Hey all,

Had a phone interview earlier this week for UNLV experimental program. The prof I spoke with said they expect to have their in-person interview invitations sent out by the end of next week (December 16th, maybe?).

Good luck to all!

Congrats! What is UNLV?

I have my UCSB Skype interview with 2 of my POI's on Friday! I'm super nervous because of the whole skype aspect.

I'm excited but nervous because it's in 2 days!

I applied for the school track btw.

Congrats! I'm hoping they start contacting the counseling applicants soon. UCSB had the earliest deadline (November 15) I've seen of any of the counseling/clinical/school psych programs.

Glad everyone likes the flowchart :) I'm sure it was a well-warranted "celebration dance" - mine will last a couple of months if I get in!!

Absolutely!! I've heard horror stories of POIs using social media as a deciding tool when they're in between people to choose from. My friend got into a program because the other girl had "too many plastic-red-cup pictures" on her facebook. On the other hand, I've heard of POIs not accepting someone because there "was nothing fun or sociable" on her facebook. It really depends on the person doing the web surfing. Also, don't think that setting your account to private will keep them away. Both of these people I mentioned had super privacy settings - they still got through. I did a sweep of my pictures months ago!! Not that there was anything wrong with some of them, you just have to make it as professional-but-sociable-and-appropriate as possible.

My married name is on my social media and my maiden name (which is still technically my legal name until I graduate) is on all my apps. So I think I'm ok.
But I had the same issue as some other people on this thread, there's some sketchy people out there with my unusual name- not good :nono:

Has anyone else had this daydream?

It's Christmas morning. I wake up and go over to the Christmas tree. My husband is there along with my family and everyone is opening presents. All of the sudden, my phone rings. It's my top-choice program telling me "we are accepting you into our program - you don't even need an interview, we loved your application. Congratulations and Merry Christmas!"

Hahahahaha how amazing would that be!!!?? Not that I'm expecting anything of this sort, but that would be the best story ever to tell the grand kids one day. If I was on an admissions board and had an outstanding applicant that I had already met and was certain about, I think I might just try to make they Christmas all that much better!
Enjoy the dreams while they last

You don't sound like you have a very realistic view of grad school. That isn't how it works in anyone's world and I doubt you will remember much the day you got accepted, what with all of the work and stress you'll endure along the way to the actual degree. Is this some sort of fantasy or a life goal, really??
