Default What Are My Chances?

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
25 P (9/8/8), 3.98 cGPA, 3.97 sGPA, 4.00 nsGPA, Chemistry Major at a state school.

I have already applied to 7 DO schools and 2 MD schools. I understand that MD is nearly out of the question, but I applied to my state school on the < 3% chance that I get an interview. I believe that my LOR, personal statement and EC are quite solid. I also interview well.

I got an interview at 1 DO school already, and am waiting to be confirmed at the others. Maybe this is a rare question, since the dominoes are already falling, but what are my chances for DO this time around?

Also, my final Kaplan practice test was a 32. I believe that a 25 P is unrepresentative of my ability. With, say, a balanced 31 on an MCAT retake, what are my chances for MD next time around?

Really needing advice. Thanks!

1) Assuming you've been Complete for awhile, LORs are good, and that your undisclosed ECs are the usual and customary, chances for a DO acceptance this cycle are decent.

2) All Applicants who have applied to AMCAS schools with a 3.98/31, historically had a > 83% chance of an acceptance.

Thank you! Forgot to mention: ECs are school clubs, captain of basketball team, church involvement, piano and percussion for different musical groups, creative writing / essay contests. Also worked as nursing assistant for 2 years.

If you don't have any DO shadowing/personal experience through work, try to get that in before the interview.

Could your church involvement be interpreted as nonmedical community service (leading teen groups in service projects, for example)? If not, maybe try to start some.

Sorry for the thread bump. Currently shadowing a DO. On the application, I interpreted my church involvement that way. If I'm not accepted this time around, I will be looking for more community service. Thanks!

Overall, then, your ECs are indeed nicely solid. You didn't mention research, but that is not a required element. I think you have good reason for some optimism about an acceptance this cycle.

Or, are you hoping you won't get an acceptance so you'll have a shot at a better MCAT score?

OK, that's reassuring. If accepted, I am 95% sure I'll attend. If not, though, I will certainly retake the MCAT and apply early, early, early.
