Hello toothfairyqueen, thank you for this information.
I am interested in this program and i have check out the website. I have couple questions regards the applicant requirements. under the application requirement check list one of the listing is a notarized copy of dental license. is it meant our home country dental license? and how many LOR do we need? thank you for clarifying.

yes it is the home country dental license.. of course you don't have US dental license yet .... regarding how many LOR's, I am not sure, please email at idp@vcu.edu for correct official answer. They are really responsive and very helpful.

Thank you toothfairy. I have a question about the practical interview or the bench test. Are the candidates allowed to wear the loupes ( magnification) while doing the bench test? Also, the high speed handpiece that we use in the dental offices right? Pls shed some light.

Thank you.

its your choice if you want to wear loupes, wear them, there's no rule to it. as far as instruments are concerned, last year we were provided everything from the school and they told us not to bring our own instruments, including handpieces. please check the interview feedback thread in the sticky thread list for bench exam info

Last year the fee for bench exam was $6900. This time they have lowered it to $1900.
My personal opinion would be to practice as much as you can! If you ate doing it alone make sure you have some solid reference! Do not practice blindly! If you have enough money join a predatory course!

you are talking about the "bench exam prep course"not the interview bench exam.... it is a separate CE course offered by the school, its not linked with the interview anywhere. there was no fee for interview bench test.I never toot that prep course form VCU. I think this year the interview and the bench exam is being conducted early than next year. I would say since the application deadline last year was july15 and this time they are starting taking applications from FEB onward, so everything would start and end pretty early.

I did not attend it last time as I didn't know about it but today after reading your post, I tried to look into the contents of this course, I think it would be really helpful. Unlike other bench prep courses in the country which just provide only the "cavity prep or crown prep education" , here at VCU they would impart Preparation + restoration both in operative and prosthodontics. Also Dentsim is a part of the course which only very few schools have in whole of US. But nobody can make you an expert in a week, they would let you know what to do and how to do, but making yourself proficient and competent enough to get selected into a school which has a bench test need lots of self practice. Its totally your decision based how well your dexterity skills are. Yes, another advantage is if you decide to take the course at VCU, you may contact me or any of the current students for any guidance, we'll all be really glad to help you out with any kind of questions you have. People are really helpful here in VCU, be it anyone.
Anyone on SDN please don't take this post of mine as a my recommendation to any course or disgrace to any other course, as I have previously wrote, I took Dr Duggans course, which has helped me a lot and I found no deficiency in it since it was perfect for my needs and brought my skills to a really competent level, so all of you out there, there is no good or bad course, you just need to find "WHICH BENCH TEST PREP COURSE SUITS YOUR PROFESSIONAL AND FINANCIAL NEEDS".
Good luck all. I'd be happy to answer any queries regarding VCU or otherwise.
