Default Aug 3rd MCAT too late?

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
Im really concerned that aug 3rd will be late. I live in alberta and we have limited dates. none in June. a few in july (which are full). then many in august..

I really wanted to apply early but didnt get around to registering until now.

How often do ppl change their mcat dates? should i not bank on that happening?

also im considering flying to montana to write the june 21 or july 3rd mcat? is it worth it just to get in my app early. MY gpa is average (about a 3.8) and this will be my second time taking the mcat. i took it last summer and did really bad (23O). But I didnt take a prep course or anything and i didnt really know what to expect nad i only did 1 or 2 practice exams.

this time im take a prep course and expecting to do much better.

so should I seriously consider flying out to montana for an earlier date?
should i hope someone cancels and i get a seat for july?
or should i just write it in august?

Thanks for the advice!

Phew, tough decision. I'm also Canadian, but I go to college in the US, so there's a bunch of testing sites near me.

Keep in mind that if you fly to Montana, you should also factor in a one-night hotel stay into the cost because you probably want to get some rest the night before.

People do change their minds last minute and seats do open up, if you're hoping for that, it'll be hard to budget the remainder of your studying time because you won't know for sure which day you'll be taking it.

For US applicants, a 3.8 is above average and is a very solid GPA.

So I guess it comes down to finances and your level of preparation; if you have the money to travel and stay in Montana, then it'll provide you with mental security knowing for sure which day you'll take it.

I'm writing the same day. Just make sure you are complete in all other aspects and then schools will be updated with you application as soon as scores come out. This way you will be fully complete by sept 3rd (approx) and not be considered too late.
