Post Does Plab necessary for IMG residency in UK ?

Hey, Is it possible to do residency in UK without PLAB..... I heard from one of my friend that, he is going to do Surgical residency in Oxford, UK without appearing for PLAB....
Is it possible ?

Unless he trained in the UK, no. http://www.gmc-uk.org/doctors/plab.asp#1

Also, don't believe everything your friends say. 'Oxford' might mean actually a ****ty little DGH in Oxfordshire....and 'surgical residency' could mean a one year, non progressive staff grade job (as surgical higher training is competitive enough for UK graduates)
