Default Pharmacists who were laid off or can't find a pharmacy job

What other work are you doing until you land a pharmacist job? I'm trying to figure out my sh!t hits the fan plan but I don't have much backup for now so I need ideas. Did you go into loan deferment or forbearance? How does that affect your credit?

My loans were long paid off, and I took a job at a call center because I got really bored. I quit that job after a week when I realized the place was nothing but a boiler room, and a lawyer I know who practices in that town told me that things at that place are worse than I could have imagined in just a week.

I COULD NOT get a job doing anything else, because once they saw that pharmacy degree, I was pretty much told to GTFO and FOAD and not come back.

I'd build a niche subscription based website $15-20/month and star in a gay porn star, like um... peterfever.com (NSFW). Just need 100 peeps to sign up for $2000/month extra income, yes please! <_<

Is the niche pharmacists? I'm not sure how well that would go over. Never really heard of a pharmacist fetish. Admittedly, I'm not experienced with gay porn, so I could be mistaken.

Above example is well built Asian male niche. Not many Asian are doing porn, not many are well built, and not many are gay. Considering Asians host of 60% of world population, if you could provide a back end channel for the world (many Asian countries ban porn) to access your little site through proxy or VPN = mass traffic to website = money

I am sure I can find other niche to exploit @_@

Have 6-12 months worth of living expenses stacked away just in case that happens. Easier said than done. Most people live from paycheck to paycheck. They know that it happens to other people and it MIGHT happen to them, but they don't ever think that it would.

Defer your student loans if you need to.

Get on unemployment if you got laid off. It won't be much, but better than nothing.

Most importantly, do not spread yourself too thin by having a brand new car and a big mortgage.

Move if needed for a job.

I've had a number of odd jobs and I wouldn't mind doing them if needed to. Who knows...if I wasn't working for months, I might be really creative and open my own business. It won't be pharmacy related.

This idea is worthless without your picture. You can PM it to me. I don't even need to see the peter. A Speedo or nice banana hammock is fine. Thanks in advance!

Well, my scenario wasn't exactly being employed, I had a full time job immediately after school but i still wanted more experience so I spent almost a year trying to get a per diem hospital or retail position. So many doors closed in my face because I was a "newbie". Anyhoo, I ended up earning extra cash by using my BS degree. It was weird those few months because I felt like I was going "backwards" but I was still working in healthcare, just not as a pharmacist.

Did you include your pharmacy education in the resume you submitted for your BS degree job? I also have a BS degree in something other than pharmacy. I do miss my old job (BS degree job) a little bit and want to do prn work, but I'm not sure what to put in my resume. I know they probably wonder what in the world a pharmacist is doing here, and probably won't give me the job for fear I wouldn't stay long due to the lower pay.

I was let go in December when the independent I was working at in Wisconsin closed with a two day notice. Despite being very well "networked" in the independent world, I was unable to find any work, eventually I just applied to any part time position I saw in a 30 mile radius of my house I just bought (I had to relocate to do take the previous job...). I actually got 3 Fill-in positions rather quickly. I only got rejected from one job. While I have nothing "scheduled" I have managed to average about 20-25 hrs a week and my summer is already booked at more than full time. I used to be a fanboy for the whole independent pharmacy world, but it is nice working for some bigger companies and finally cracking the $50 an hour rate, which the real world of pharmacy did more than a decade ago.

I basically went three months without a paycheck, and I was able to survive on savings, since I was a student only 2 years ago, it was easy to go without buying stuff. I also paid my student loans ahead each month so my next payment wasn't due for a year, otherwise I would have had to defer them, since i had to pay my mortgage.

If this happened to me again, I wish I would have just taken more of these fill-in type positions or per diem work right away instead of just sitting around looking for a full time job. I have pretty much stopped looking for a real job since I actually like the variety of going to different places every day, And for at least the next few months I have ~0.8 FTE worth of work lined up.

I do miss playing on my laptop and watching TV during downtime at the independents I worked at though....

I know some stores in my chain hiring in PA if you want to live in the Philly suburbs. Managers aren't great but hey, it's a job.
