Default Epsom Salt and Magnesium Oil for sore joints/muscles

So, this is one I could never wrap my head around. How does topical magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt) or saturated solutions of mag salts (Magnesium Oil) help with muscle and joint soreness/ache. It's obvious that Mg++ is an important ion of in the muscle and nervous function but how do you expect the cation to penetrate the stratum corneum to any measurable effect? Epsom salt solutions feel slippery so I'm on the train that it's just a placebo effect and the hot water doing all the effect. What's your opinion?

i'm on the placebo train.

(i now find myself pondering what a placebo train would be like... would probably make lots of noise but not go anywhere...)

For such details speak with your local pharmacist or doc. Closing as treads on advice asking. I know it isn't. But do not want others to start asking for muscle ache advice here...

Ion channels...

Ok, open again. But no advice questions, okee.
