Default GME Funding?

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
My goal is to go into Family Medicine, but I did not match this time. However, I have an opportunity for a one-year PGY 1 Internal Medicine preliminary program which I was thinking about taking and reapplying to Family Medicine next match. This would prevent me from becoming stale.

However, I was warned “preliminary program is likely a positive if you are able to do it. Just make sure that it doesn't use up ayear of your GME funding, as that would make you a less desirable candidate to some programs.”

Whatare the limitations on GME funding and would this use up a year of it? Is there a limitation on years of GME funding?

Isthere a web site that explains GME funding?

Preliminary years do not count towards the timer that starts once you match in a categorical position. If it is categorical, than it does count.
