I was arrested back in high school with some buddies for petty theft. We swapped out filet mignon steaks with ground beef so we could have a fancy grill out for a cheap price. Very dumb and we got caught and learned our lesson. I went to court and the charges were dropped with some community service and they specified the charges were taken off of my record. This is true because I have had 2 background checks for working at a hospital and getting into dental school that both came back clear.
My main question is that for the HPSP scholarship I have to have a background check and I am guessing that the military has a more sophisticated means of digging up peoples pasts. Would the background check find this offense even though it was taken off my record and other checks not seen it either? Or should I just tell my recruiter about it and be truthfully about a dumb mistake I made almost 8 years ago?
Thanks,
