I am wondering when invites will be going out for october/november...according to some stats I saw (possibly doc's document?) about half of the interviews occur between october and november. Last edited by diene; 09-19-2012 at 05:13 PM. |

I heard that too, and by looking at other threads from last year, most has interviews in October and November it seemed.

CONGRATS!!! It's literally any day with these Texas schools. I have seen invites occur on Fridays, Wednesday, and now Thursdays. Just be patient.....an invite can come any day of the week it seems.

Have any OOS applicants heard anything? I know the non-residents spots aren't very numerous, but they do have to take somebody to fill them; why not me!

I've had interviews at Baylor and San Antonio, but have not heard anything from Houston. I presume they're looking for a different type of applicant than myself. To those, who think its too late, do not lose hope, last cycle I applied on the last day and still managed to get an interview.

Hey guys,
Just curious, if I interviewed with all three Texas dental schools before October, what are the chances of getting into any one of them? assuming I had decent interviews...? Has anyone not got accepted into any after interviewing with all three schools in the past? |

I was wondering the same thing too. I already interviewed at all three Texas schools as well. When I was at my Baylor interview, one interviewee said he was a reapplicant who interviewed at all 3 texas schools last application cycle.

3 interviews in Texas gives you a big advantage on getting an acceptance over those that has 1 or 2 interviews in Texas. Maybe his interviews at all 3 sucked? I really dunno

Supposedly UTHSCSA accepts 30% of its interviews. I imagine the other ones are not much different

Apparently Baylor and Houston interview roughly 250 or so and accept 100. San Antonio interviews 330 and accepts 100. At my Houston interview, I learned that on December 3, Baylor will typically send out acceptances to 100% of its class (100 acceptances), and Houston and San Antonio will send out acceptances to 50% of their own class sizes (~50 acceptances each). In the end, roughly ~200 acceptances will go out on dec 3, and as the schools continue to interview through January, most of the remaining ~100 spots in texas dental schools will be filled 45 days after dec 3. Another reason things get so confusing is because some ppl get into more than one Texas school or even perhaps an oos school. More spots open up after the first 45 days to accommodate for those who declined their offers to go to a different school they got into.

Pretty nice guy and seemed interested in dentistry.....at least I thought. It had me pretty confused, but I guess that happens more often than you think. I knew of somebody who shadowed the dentist I used to shadow. He interviewed at all three Texas schools and did not land an acceptance because of lack of interpersonal/communication abilities (it could have been for many other reasons, but this is just what the dentist told me based on his experience with him shadowing...didn't give me a name). Apparently he had very good stats ( >3.7 and ~21AA).

Did you learn this at a San Antonio interview? If so...then you are probably more correct. I learned this at my Houston interview.

yeah I think it is what Captain..said..Dr. Segura never said that they send out 100 acceptances. Dr. Pierpont said Houston and San Antonio they send out about 65% of there acceptances...as I recall.

If you want to get technical it is actually The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Dentistry.

I don't think it's UTHSC...thats in San Antonio. This school is just University of Texas School of Dentistry. Even on their e-mails it says UTSD.

Just kidding. After touring the school it was made clear that the school no longer identifies themselves using the dental branch name due to the apparent confusion with The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB). Prior to the name change, people, so they said, thought the dental school was part of a branch belonging to that medical school and not as a separate school of their own. I thought about using The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Dentistry in my post, but decided to make the UTSD acronym more apparent by discarding Health Science Center. In fact, the article does so themselves: "The University of Texas School of dentistry at Houston." You got UTHSCSA(San Antonio), UTHSC (Tennessee), so as you can see here, there is already enough UTHSC's. There is no need for another UTHSC-blah, blah, blah. Now concerning the user I quoted, at the very least, know the proper name to the school you are interviewing at. It would be quite embarrassing at the interview if they caught this and will reveal how much knowledge the user knows about that school. I'm just trying to help here while doing what the school wishes, which is referring to them as UTSD and not UTDB. Really, there's no need to start any flame war here, doc. |
