Default Letter of Recommendation Advice Regarding Evaluators

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
Hi,

I had taken a biology course at my undergraduate university that was completely taught by a PhD candidate (he was not the TA, he was the actual course instructor). He has agreed to write my letter of rec, especially after getting to know me well during lecture and office hours, but I'm not sure if a letter from him would be taken seriously, because he doesn't have a PhD and is not an actual professor. What are your opinions/thoughts about this? Would the situation be ameliorated by having his faculty supervisor co-sign the letter? Please advise! Thanks!

I had a letter from an MPH that was a professor as well, it was accepted just fine. One caveat in your situation is that while he did instruct you, he's also a student (a PhD student), so your idea of having the letter co-signed is probably sound. If the chair can't do it, get another professor in the department to.
