Researchers found students fared equally well in both formats on every measure of learning. The only difference was that the online group appeared to learn faster." Meanwhile, the feds have been subsidizing $20 million college buildings.

Yeah, but your sample size...
Plus, buildings can be used for more advanced courses then. I know some medical schools have online courses for the first year or so, followed by in-person courses and training.
