Default Minority Status Letter - good or bad?

I received a letter from a medical school last Fall informing me I am considered a minority student at that school. Is this something schools send out to everyone that qualifies, or does it mean I should definitely apply there? Having trouble deciding what schools to go for and this is so confusing...

Just curious, how is one 'considered a minority at that school'? I mean, one is a minority or not; it seems weird to mail a prospective student a letter informing them of this fact

URM definition varies to some degree between schools.

It's pretty much sent out to every "minority" - I got those letters from Northwestern, Harvard, Pritzker, and a couple other schools. Your decision to apply to a school shouldn't hinge on that letter, but on other factors that you consider important (location, cost, opportunities, etc)
