just wondering. for students who have completed their 1st year of medical school, should a student be able to answer pathophysiology umsle style questions, having only had physiology the first year of medical school?

I was wondering because looking at what people said about the physiology shelf, and people says it has a lot of pathophys, despite the writers of the exam claiming that the entire test can be done with just a background in physiology and no pathophys background, makes me wonder if students are expected to learn pathophys in their 1st year phys course.

I'm sure it depends on the school, but most first years learn mainly physiology and relatively little pathophysiology as compared with second year (with the exception of the musculoskeletal systems). Most physiology questions that don't include any pathology seem, in my practice exams (I haven't taken the real deal yet), to be either about the renal or cardiovascular system. They are not a big percent of the questions.
