Default Housing?

Hi guys! Long time lurker and finally decided to post! I am attending Kansas State in the fall, but this question is for all vet students. How have past OOS students found housing their first year? And how has the class of 2016 been going about it so far? There are many upper classmen looking for roomates to fill houses, but I feel I would be more comfortable living with a freshman so we would be able to study together and go through the same experience in the same class. Or do people think it is better to live with an upper classman to get advice? Not to mention the expense it will be to travel to find housing. Have people just accepted offers for housing without seeing the place? So many options to think about in such a short time! Any opinions would be appreciated!

Hey! I'm going to K-State in the Fall also and was looking for housing options.

At first I was thinking of living with a current student, since they have the places furnished and all, but after thinking about it, I decided to look for housing with other incoming students, since we'll have similar schedules and we'll be going through the same things together.

Right now, two other girls have shown interest and we're looking for 3 br apartments and houses online from Craigslist and Housing websites and we'll be discussing it in the near future. I've also been asking upperclassmen for advice and they're all super helpful, so ask if you need advice! About the renting without checking the place out, I've definitely done that before and as long as you document the condition when you move in, the landlord can't charge you to fix it when you move out. I also check floorplans and ask for pictures so I know what to expect.

I'm not sure how housing in Kansas will work because we're all OOS, but I could keep you updated so you have an idea of what others are doing

I'm going to Virginia OOS, so this isn't totally applicable to your situation but I thought I'd share anyways.
I live 6 hours away from Blacksburg and I didn't have the time or resources to check out housing in person before moving there. Also, I'm married so we wanted our own place, no roommates. I contacted realty companies (provided through a list the school made available) with my requirements- # of bedrooms, fenced yard etc... and the companies that had properties that matched my needs contacted me. I checked out the available photos and mapquested the locations for info on the proximity to the school. Then I asked someone I know from the area to check out the place I liked best.
Then we docu-signed the lease online, mailed checks, the place is ours.

Yep, I did the same thing. 1,000 miles away, I searched online and narrowed it down to places based on my specs. I signed the lease and emailed it back, and am mailing a check this week. I got very lucky and LOVE the place! It was a lot of work and frustration, but it's what you gotta do.
