Default How To Make Myself Competitive

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
Alright, here is my situation, I know I don't feel qualified for this round, but I want to know what I can do on my year off? I'm applying everywhere anyways so I'll want brutal honesty on how I can make myself ready. I know MD is out of the picture, but I'm hoping with grade replacement, I have a real shot for DO.

Calc 1 D+ (B 2nd Time)

Chem 1 C+
Chem 2 E (A- 2nd time) Difficult time, but no excuses, should've withdrawn or man'd up

Bio 1 A-
Bio 2 B+

Orgo 1 B-
Orgo 2 B

Physics 1B+
Pysics 2 B-

Biochem A (Studied my ass)

I have taken some High level science courses (MicroBio A-, Pathogens A-) and plan on taking Immunology and Inorganic (And others if suggested).

I don't know what my cGPA would be with grade replacement, right now it stands at 3.31 altogether. My MCAT was a 28O. Extracurricular include: 1 year shadowing, 2 years research (one paper so far), 3 years volunteer, Treasurer and Secretary of my club, 3 good LOR.

I plan to take the year off of applying and strengthen my app during my senior year with high level science courses with A's. However I want to know what I can do to make myself competitive. Nova-COM is my dream school. I also haven't shadowed a DO, will that hinder my competitiveness as opposed to shadowing an MD? Should I retake the MCAT? Also, my school doesn't allow you to take courses there after I graduate, if I retake Physics 2, Chem 1 and Orgo 1 at a CC, will that be ok for grade replacement?

Cliffnotes:
MCAT: 28O, cGPA: 3.52 sGPA: 3.43
Thanks for your time!

Edit: Amirite?

Got my act together I meant to say. But you're right, should've been that way the whole way through.

I was actually just referring to the fact that you said you "studied your ass" to get an A in biochem. I think you meant you studied your ass off, but I'm not here to judge

even without retakes, you have competitive GPA. your MCAT score is good as well. Just get DO shadowing done to be apply to more schools but there are still a number schools that accept MD letter of recommendation. As for your ECs, do you have any more clinical ECs other than shadowing?
I think you should apply this year. Your GPA and MCAT score makes you competitive at many schools good luck!

Are WesternU, Midwestern, UNE, and LECOM on that list? PCOM?
