I said HARPER'S, Lamar!
|
How many of them are actually real jobs?
We've been over this several times before. Just because something is listed online doesn't mean that it exists. That and the whole state license issue.

I am an undergraduate, I am not even in pharmacy school yet, and I already have something lined up for when I graduate in ~4 years. It really is not that hard. Last edited by Pojman; 05-31-2012 at 10:47 AM. |

Whenever I got into pharmacy school 6 years ago, I had something lined up, too. I was told to come back after I graduated, but guess what? They weren't hiring whenever I graduated. So do I work there now? No. I don't even live in the same city. In fact, most of my contacts don't even work for the same company anymore! |

Jobs are far and in between for people in urban areas, ie: NYC and Chicago. When I was still working (1 year ago), district managers were not giving out new contracts and if they were, it was limited hours. The people that had the highest chance of getting hired were interns that has worked for a while and accrued a lot of experience.
Also, did you look at the job listings? It was a lot of Target and Walmart spamming positions. Also, it included opening for technicians. There are more jobs in rural areas, in places where there are no pharmacy schools around. Do you expect every pharmacist to just move for a job? It is not that easy buddy. Other valid points are brought up. Many pharmacists do not want to reciprocate their license to another state and most of the postings are probably NOT real openings. I hate belittling, but unless you are a recent graduate, you are not in a position to be critical of others. And there are no employers that are BEGGING for pharmacists to work for them. You need to 1) do some growing up 2) do your homework. |

I am hardly idealistic, and very practical. And yes - I certainly do have something lined up for after I graduate, otherwise I never would have taken this route. Look - I don't want to stir up trouble. And I admit, I came off too abrasive in my initial post. I am just plain sick and tired of reading the same thing over and over again about how there are no jobs behind the pharmacy counter, when I know from experience that there are plenty. Granted - I understand that some areas might be worse than others, but the vast majority of the pharmacy jobs are still in very high demand. How do I know from experience that there are plenty of pharmacy jobs out there? Because the company that I work for is constantly hiring and scrambling to keep their positions filled. I know this from working in management. Rxlea - I can't stand fox news. I voted for Ron Paul for the last election, and I will do so again this election. For those of you who are familiar with Ron Paul, that might show how interested I am in the mainstream media. My point is - there are jobs available. If doing something as simple as a google search can show me that many jobs, I tend to believe that some real world networking can almost guarantee a job to the people that actually get out there and find them. |

I have worked for the same company for 14 years. You are right, nothing is absolutely certain, but if the past is a good indication of the future, I am very confident that it will all work out according to plan. I don't know anything about the Golden Gate Bridge, but I do know enough about my work relationships to feel confident that I know what I am doing when this is over.

Actually, that is false. The military seems to be doling out quite lofty compensatory packages to pharmacists that join their ranks. I mean, they even have Health Profession Recruiters for Pharmacists and other professions. I don't know what you would consider "begging", but having recruiters throwing quasi-sales pitches at you and promising you a bunch of stuff seems awful close from my perspective.

goddamn people are dumb..
this is like the 5th time i've said this.... "just because there's a job listing doesn't mean there's an actual job behind it." ::rolls eyes:: will see you all again when someone posts a "LOOK A TON OF JOBS!" thread next year. |

![]() Good luck again if you make it to pharm school and if you make it through and if you actually have whatever it is lined up at the end.... what sort of retail store are we talking? I suspect you are just stacking your chips on some connection you have within the store for this assumed position you have waiting for you in 4 years.... because THAT totally supports your claims here

I figure 1 car for almost $800...if they ship 10 or 15 cars at one time on a truck that's what? $8000 to $12,000 dollars for ONE shipment! My guess is it cost maybe $200 or $300 to fill up a truck with gasoline...it can't possibly cost them anywhere near $8000 or $12,000 to drive a truck from Atlanta to Texas! (I am just bitter that I have to pay money out..LOL...) |

Distance from Atlanta to Dallas 800 miles 160 gallons of diesel 160 gallons x $3.80 = $608 in fuel + 5 year loan on a $150,000 truck + trailer @ 6% = $2830/mo + taxes, liability insurance, broker fees, etc.. Wait, 800 miles...why don't you just drive the dang thing yourself? I think you might be overpaying, I'm paying $1075 to ship my car 3000 miles to the west coast. |

I didn't know the fuel for a truck is that expensive! daaammmnnnnnnn! LOL.... I pay $50 to fill up my Volvo every 10 days and that is already TOO damn expensive IMO. $608 for fuel is crazy! I had no idea. LOL... I am getting it shipped to Houston, Texas from Atlanta...It's around a 13 hr drive. Here is the catch....My block 3 rotation last till Friday August 31....My block 4 rotation starts on Sept 3rd in Texas....so I have TWO DAYS....Sept 1 and 2 to drive to Texas...that's really rushed don't you think? I mean if I had 1 week off then maybe that's fine...but I have TWO DAYS to drive 13hrs! That's crazy...and not to mention I have to get my stuff organized my room cleaned, my stuff unpacked etc. So I figure it would be much quicker to fly... What's your opinion on this? My mother is scared that I would be too tired driving 13 hrs by myself too.

Here is the weridest thing....
I got prices from $650 to $800... But the lower prices are from companies that haven't been around for as long....The company that I want has been in business for 11 years and he is charging me like $750 for it.... Okay the weridest thing was he told me that from Texas to Atlanta he will only charge me $450, BUT from Atlanta to Texas it's gonna be $750! ![]() I ask him WHY and he told me that's how the market is.... I am going the SAME distance but my shipment BACK is gonna be $300 less...OKAY...

I don't know much about this topic, so excuse me if this is a silly question... If pharmacy is so saturated, as some people state, why does the ACPE or whoever is in charge of approving the opening of these new schools keep doing so? Is it solely revenue based? Or do they believe there is a shortage of pharmacists graduating every year?

What would it cost to just rent a car to use while you are in Texas? Or just take public transportation.

Wait, I thought this discussion was about pharmacy jobs, or is it about cars? It's funny how the topics always starts from one point and turns into another.
