Default Osteopathic School Chances and School List?

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
Hi Everyone!

Here are my stats (have yet to see actual AACOMAS scores):
cGPA 3.34
sGPA 3.24
MCAT 25 (P6, V9, B10)
Grad School (in Biomedical Sciences at a DO school) GPA= 3.44 (3.2 first semester, 3.64 last semester)
I calculated my grad school GPA into the above listed stats, as this is how AACOMAS does it.
Almost 2000 hours work experience as CNA.
100 volunteer hours.
30 shadowing hours (working on getting more now).

I applied 6/1, still waiting for AACOMAS to release my app to schools. I want to make sure I am applying to the right places.

KCUMB, LECOM-B, OUHCOM, PNWU, ACOM, PCOM-GA, NSU, LMU-DCOM, RVU, WVSOM, UNDNJSOM

Please let me know what you think. I am going to continue taking science classes to boost my sciGPA, and continue shadowing.
Thanks for the help! Best of luck to all!!!

Your graduate performance didn't really show any improvements from your undergrad. Your mcat is a little below average. hmmm, but I think with good EC's(you never mentioned what you have done specifically what ex. volunteers at local library? hospital? rescue squad?) and applying early, you can possibly get some interviews and acceptances.

Best of luck

I agree that the performance in the masters should have been stronger, but I don't think you did horribly either. I don't think it will necessarily help, but also not necessarily harm you. I think you're playing your luck, and just hope things turn out well. The only shameful part is the 6 in PS, but at least you didn't land a 5 where trouble begins.

take off umdnj if you aren't a NJ resident, and maybe add the other new or lower tier schools.

I had UMDNJ on the list b/c they take your graduate GPA (3.44) instead of your combined GPA (according to an admissions representative I spoke with about a month ago), but point well taken.

I volunteered at a hospital in the radiology dept.

I am hoping that by applying early and continuing to work on the GPA I will get in some where. Gotta remain hopeful until I'm holding a rejection letter in my hands, otherwise there's no reason to apply!
Thank you all for the input, I truly appreciate it.

Yep. UMDNJ's entering class gpa is 3.5 BUT it does not only apply to UG gpa...LOL.

Get your mcat to a 26-28, you will get in or at least a very good shot.

Wow, that's a really shady and deceptive way to bring your GPA up.

I have to disagree on the "shadiness", as this took a great deal of hard work. But I appreciate the responses!

Thanks to all again!

If it is indeed the case that they take your grad gpa, then that list seems good. But make absolutly sure haha, LECOM is one of the few that requires at minimum 3.4. So just double check that you won't get screened out. Also, make sure you have a DO letter of rec, pretty sure Rocky Vista requires one. Probably some others also.

I don't think LECOM requires a minimum of 3.4, this is from their website

" Applicants must have a minimum 2.7 science grade point average. Successful candidates typically have both science and overall grade point averages of 3.2 or above."

Oh you're right. Please disregard my post (except for the DO letter of rec). The Osteopathic Information book said that LECOM required a 3.4. But I just noticed that that was for the 2010 entering class. The 2013 book doesn't say that.

LECOM doesn't have a minimum 3.4. I know someone who got in with a 3.0 cGPA and <3.0 sGPA (with a normal MCAT score (mid 20s)). The GPA won't screen them out.
