Greetings All,
Im new here. I had some questions hopefully someone could help with. I have been in the eye care business for 10yrs now having worked in the commericial and private practice setting as well as an ophthalmologist office. I about to schedule the OAT i have a lower GPA 2.7. I first got my AA degree at a community college and took a bunch of classes that my university did not accept so i have almost 180 credits. my sGPA is about 2.9. do i even have a chance of getting in to optometry school? I really want to go to NOVA since i live in Miami and im really close...i have been given the impression from some people including my boss that i really dont have a shot. I had been getting A and Bs when i first started my science degree but an auto immune disease changed my life a bit and had issues controlling pain....I have finally gotten the pain under control after 2yrs and feel better than ever..anyone have any suggestions, opinions......i like honesty but not rudeness...Thanks

Your GPA is below average so your OAT score will decide if you get accepted. Score somewhere around 350 or higher then apply as early possible to NOVA. Make sure you apply to some of the newer schools as back up. Since you already have so much experience in eye care you should have no problem convincing admissions about your motivation. And you will have great recommendation. Its all about if you can handle the academic load of optometry school and you will need to a good OAT score to prove that. Study very very hard for OAT. Take time off work if you have to, take the kaplan course if you have to. Good Luck!!

Well, if you have free time to study now, then work out at the gym early in the morning and study hard for the OAT. However, focus on time management because once your in optometry school, time will be very precious.
