I understand now that contrary to what I call the "first" plan, Rutgers will now be absorbing NJMS (as well as RWJ). Will they both be essentially the same school with two campuses, or will they still be separate entities for all practical purposes? |

You have to wonder about UMDNJ SOM as well because even though the legislature wants it to go to Rowan, there is a large uproar trying to push it towards Rutgers.

Nothing is completely finalized. Here is a link to the current status of that situation:
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/201...ll_for_ru.html I never really liked the idea in the beginning. It didn't seem like the proposed benefits would be extensive enough to merit such a huge change. I do think Rutgers would benefit from a merger with RWJ, but everything else that's going on with this merger flies over my head honestly. Seems like for the most part it's something being done for the state itself, and not for the good of education and NJ undergrads/medical students. |

This was first brought up 2 years ago and I remember then Christie decided to push it forward for fiscal reasons. Regardless, I think it'll benefit the medical schools, improve their national reputation, and allow for greater research funding. UH in Newark is rife with corruption (apparently), and I'm very glad that's not joining in.
I have no idea how they're going to handle management of the campuses or what they will call them, unfortunately. As far as I know, that hasn't been fleshed out yet.
