Default Fellow colleagues, I read the AOS and the AOA statements

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
according to both regarding the board certification and let me tell you, it's getting nasty out there. They are about to go to trial in less than 2 weeks. This board certification ABO has divided our profession more than ever and it's absolutely a disgrace!
I love optometry and helping my patients to the best of my ability according to the fullest of my license boundaries but the morale of our profession is on a decline.
Do any of you see this coming to an end with board certification being eliminated and we can once again reunite?

Can they still possibly settle out of court being going to trial?
It saddens me to see.

Have a wonderful and safe summer fellow colleagues!

Not while the current AOA leadership is in place. By her recent written statements, it's clear that Dori Carlson is determined to attempt to mislead ODs and promote the profit-driven ABO as a much-needed savior for our profession.

The problem is, she's making up the threat of "losing our physicians' status" as a part of her fear-mongering tactics. There is no pending court decision which would threaten to remove our status as physicians with Medicare; it's a complete fabrication by Dori and the AOA in order to create a false impression of "need" for board certification. Furthermore, ODs are not physicians. Yes, some states allow us to call ourselves "optometric physicians," and we do a lot of the same things that physicians do, but at the end of the day, we're optometrists....not physicians. There is a huge difference between being a physician and having physician status with Medicare. Apparently, Dori is either too clueless to understand this or she's hoping that the rest of us are (I happen to think it's the latter).

Dori Carlson's behavior and complete lack of leadership has further divided the profession as we continue to sink into oblivion. The right thing for the AOA/ABO to do is to simply give up on the title of "Board Certification" and agree to call it something else that is not intentionally misleading to the public. The reason she won't do that is because she wants the tens of thousands of us ODs out there to think that our futures hang on all of us getting "Board Certified." That would be a nice bag of change for the AOA/ABO to the tune of $50M to $100M. It's not difficult to understand her desperate behavior. People do strange things when that kind of cash hangs in the balance.

The AOA and Dori Carlson, in particular, should be ashamed for such pathetic behavior that truly makes a mockery of the profession.

Totally agree....
Why can't we be happy being zebras and not try to put on leapord suits to make everyone think we are leopoards? I am proud to be an optometrist ...not a medical doctor...or physician...all that foolery using wordplay makes it obvious to everyone that we are insecure with our own trade and title.
