Default Is There Any Pharmacist Who Likes Their Job????

SDN Members don't see this ad. (About Ads)
It seems like so many people say not to go into this field and I just wanted to see if there is anyone out there that actually like what they do and are happy doing it?

The ones who are happy don't come cry on this forum. Also....people rarely say I LOVE MY JOB if they like it or are ok with it...just human nature to complain...

I like my job. I would rate it between 7-8/10. I dislike some of my co-workers but the actual "work" of my job I enjoy.

I am an inpatient pharmacist working 7 on/7 off nights with a couple clinical tasks thrown in as well.

I am currently working retail and am pretty happy with my job. I guess I would give it about an 8 out of 10. I enjoy most aspects of my job, and I don't dread going to work. The best job I ever had was at a hospital, the worst job I ever had was at a hospital. Retail and hospital are different, but I've found the job requirements of both enjoyable. Even within just retail or just hospital, there can be big differences between jobs-if someone is really unhappy with their job, they should explore other alternatives. What is a perfect job to some people may be an unbearable job to another person, and vice versa. People spend a big portion of their lives at work, so its important to find a job that one can be happy with. Also, people need to have realistic expectations about work as well, if work were that super-great, people wouldn't have to be paid to do it.

Now, that's rare! Glad to see that it is possible. Most of the hospital pharmacists I met so far are unhappy perfectionists who tend to make their techs lives miserable and can't stop whining about nurses or doctors.

Well I wasn't going to start a thread to say it because I didn't want to be seen as overtly bragging, especially in the face of all the people with suicidal tendencies lately , but since you asked, yeah I love my job.

I think another reason people might be unhappy is because they go in with grandiose expectations. Like all their professors in school taught them that everyone will be a hot shot clinical pharmacist, people will address us 'Doctor' out of respect, and all the physicians and nurse practitioners will swoon at our expert drug knowledge...

it sucks everywhere. ive worked retail with the public throwing things, cussing, etc. i give them some slack because they are the public and they don't understand how a pharmacy operates. now in the inpatient setting, you have "highly trained" "healthcare professionals" that are just as bad, if not worse. starting to think working in a mailorder pharmacy might be best.

I do not want to jinx it bit I will still say
I like my job till now .I do not know if I will feel the same way after sometime.
I won't use the word love right now as this job is new so it will be premature to say that.
Although it is not perfect and has its own problems like old employees given favors at the expense of new employees etc kind of stuff common in other jobs as well
Retail is hell and I agree 100 percent with mountain when it comes to retail.

I work retail and I hate it... and don't be PIC either, that just adds to the stress you have to deal with in retail.

I like my job, in retail no less, but I'd still advise against going into pharmacy just because it's oversaturated and it's only going to get worse. Taking out huge non-dischargeable student loans like students today do is too risky when you can't necessarily count on getting the big bucks in the end.

I'm inpatient staff and I like my job. I would give it 7/10. Some days can be stressful, but I don't dread going to work like I have at some of my other jobs.

Plus the people that you work with can make you or break you. I love my crew, which makes working so much more enjoyable.

I am to blame if your prior auth gets denied for brand Lipitor because you claim you took the generic and it caused your eye balls to pop out, massive diarrhea, skin rash, brain aneurysm and memory loss yet you do not have a claim in the system for the generic.

Competative? There is probably 20 pharmacists nationwide that do what I do. That is assuming the other PBM's have a similar set up. You want in at a PBM you need to do a residency.

QFT! The Pharmacists who enjoy their job are too busy living their lives instead of coming to a forum to bitch and complain about it.

Probably a bit more than that. There are at least 3 at my rotation right now, and this is just one of the facilities. I have to say, you were not joking about the stupid stuff that is written on PA forms.

I do enjoy this, although I haven't had much time doing it since I have quite a few projects and tons of meetings to go to. Who would've thought that following the P&P is easier than writing it.

I love my job. Both of them. I have loved all my pharmacy-related jobs (and all but one of my non-pharmacy related jobs).

Even more, I have never had a bad boss.

I guess it doesn't take much to make me happy.

Notice there is a trend towards non-retail. Interning a while in retail and you quickly realize the idiotic, entitled patients and pain interest butt insurance company will make work a constant test of your fortitude. Take those away and even I wouldn't mind working retail.
