Doctor A touchy subject, Adderall XR abuse

SDN Members don't see this ad.
Well, I am already into my first choice med school, so finals were not a source of stress for me this semester. So while I am sitting back and procrastinating, a friend asks me if i want to try some adderall XR and see how it affects my studying. I have always done fine in school without any drugs or suppliments to help my studies - but since this time finals don't really matter to me I decided to give it a whirl.

I took about 12mg (I split a pill in half) and I saw how I did on my first final. For 7 hours straight I studied like an animal and comprehended everything without losing concentration. I ended up killing the final, even though I only needed a low grade to keep an A in the class.

I thought it might have been the placebo effect so I took 12mg for my next final as well and studied for several extened periods of time and assimilated the information very quickly. I killed the next final as well. Again, I didn't even have to do well on the final to make an A in the class.

Now I am wondering if anybody else has had experience with taking Adderall XR to study. I probably won't do it ever again, but I am glad I experimented with it just to see what it was like. I can describe the experience as being in "the zone". Some side effects included loss of appetite and loss of sleep. Do some kids take this stuff all the time? Share your experiences.

I have honestly been recently taken aback by how common the use of this drug is on college campuses. Especially mine! Several of my friends are completely open and honest about using it. My question is.....are people gonna wind up destroying their brains in the long run? This is something to seriously consider!!

I personally haven't taken Adderall because I can get in the zone on my own. However, when I was in Organic Chemistry one of my classmates took Adderall to study before every test and on the final. He did very well in the class.

Its a perscription drug and "use" and "abuse" are to totally different aspects when taking drugs. The good thing about perscription drugs is you know the side effects. However, with street drugs you don't the side effects and you can't always be garaunteed that your street drug of choice isn't laced with other more harmful stuff (if Coke weren't harmful enough).

Personal choice is basically what it comes down to and moderation. Taking Adderall to study isn't something anyone should brag about. It basically means you can't cut it and need some form of drug. I personally don't respect people for it..but that is my VERY personal opinion and the "cone of safety" has descended on me so NO flaming...

Doesnt that stuff, like all amphetamines, make you sick, exhausted, nervous, and depressed afterwards?

I wonder if people need Adderall for something as basic (relative to what doctors and med students do) as an organic chemistry final, what are they going to do during an 80 hour work week in the hospital?

Back in my days as a lurker, I think I remember you starting a starting a thread about this before? Guess you ended up thinking your were at a disadvantage. Alas. Here's the thread as I remember it: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/show...ghlight=aderol

And I thought Kovox did a good job of covering the risks of Adderall:

Taking or snorting 200-250 mg a gajillion times aday will have you running about like a total moron and you will experience a mild heart attack.

These students, if you can, advise them to stop. If they are overdosing, they will break down and cry during the exam. You will notice that their speech pattern is faster, they will shake (literally), and not keep still.

I've witnessed several of my friends do this to themselves despite my warnings. Stay away from Alderol and Ritalin. You are taking the MCATs, you don't need drugs as a stimulant, just believe in yourself - that should be enough motivation and potential to do well.

Aderol and Ritalin = Prescription for trouble.
Personally, I think the best way to study is the natural way, without drugs.

You didn't read my post. Scroll to the top of the screen and read.

I said I took it now because this semester's finals don't count - I am already accepted at my first choice school and I could make a 4.0 this semester even if I got straight C's on my finals.

I have NOTHING to gain by taking the adderall, I took it for experimental purposes only - not because I thought I was at a disadvantage.

200-250mg several times a day!!!! That must be insane.

I took 12mg 1 time and i could feel it. thats about the difference between drinking a beer and drinking a keg. I don't know that people could take that much adderall and survive.
