Psych, hands down.

Uro is pretty chill for surgeons, but they're still way more intense than psych or PM&R.

I was referring to the patients. Most neurosurgery patients can't talk, move, or breath on their own. They're pretty chill to be around.

They're a weird brand of "chill." What's an OR besides a small ICU, anyway? Things can get ugly really quickly, but it doesn't seem to bother them 99% of the time.

I think there's chill sections of all subspecialties. Broken down

Medicine: GI (Cardio tends to be 50/50 though all the fellows I've ever met have been chill awesome dudes) by far. Rheum comes in close second followed by Cardio. Pulm/CC has been the most intense in my experience
Surgery: Breast and Peds, Urology
Anesthesia def
PM&R for sure
Psych is 50/50
Rads is 50/50 in my experience as well, surprisingly

I think it depends a lot on individual personality too

During a small-group session today, a pediatrician was telling us that GI docs tend to be pretty relaxed and cool. I've known 4 different GI docs at this point, and they all have seemed quite chill, with good senses of humor, too.

I think that most if not all fields of medicine have people that are laid back while simulataneously having people that are extremely not laid back. At the end of the day you decide what personality you have. In terms of your colleagues, I'd say it's about fity-fity.

Yeah, there is nothing funny about the humerus.

As for most laid back personalities?

It's the spine surgeons.

In my experience pathologists are really chill. They just don't seem to give a damn. Gas docs are chill because I think there is bleed off from the volatiles they use

What's better is when your professor says "'Bueller...Bueller'" to get the class's attention and then proceeds to explain what movie the quote is referencing. Has happened before.

I would have to vote for Psy..........almost all I have met are chill.

GI docs are chill for the most part but I know a couple that are not.

EM docs are relaxed too. I think a EM doc would have to be not to be like "oh crap, what do I do?.......

Anes is hit or miss in my experience.

Dont know any PMR guys.....I could see that being chill though.

Optho guys are chill for the surgery side too.

Nope, Big 12. But we did have a lecturer come in who grew up in New Zealand. He had about 10 slides about sorbing, hang gliding, etc. Fun stuff. Much better than the actual lecture
