I do believe some rejections were sent out end of February/beginning of this month. Not sure of the exact number, but when I heard this I scoured my entire e-mail and emailed them, but they replied with application under "Active Review"

Did anyone else receive a promotional e-mail from Alison, encouraging to apply to Duke-NUS? I sure hope this isnt indicative of my (remaining) hopes :eek:

I got one today. I'm quite intrigued by the program, and might consider applying. I've been getting quite a few emails from random overseas med schools ever since my MCAT score was released. Some look interesting (this one, Oschner/U of Queensland), and others I can do without (Caribbean med schools). Do these schools know actually have an idea what I got, or are they just spamming everyone that took the MCAT?

Well I think it is because you took the MCAT.

I still receive emails about PhD and MD webinar info session and open house events. Never got one that advertises the school! Sounds pretty interesting. Kinda curious what it looks like lol.

I got those Caribbean med school ones though and they have been filtered into my spam box. Just not a good fit for my circumstances.

My memory fails me, but if I remember correctly during the MCAT they ask if you want to release your scores to 3rd parties. Maybe they picked up on your scores there?

It is almost end of March peeps! Crossing fingers that decisions will come out soon, whatever the results might be! Really jealous of those who are already accepted (congrats guys, all of you deserve it :thumbup:). I hope to be able to move forward with my life.....so, Duke-NUS admissions officers, if you're seeing this public announcement......WE REALLY CAN'T WAIT FOR IT!!!

I thought all results are usually on the weekends so they don't have to respond to our angry phone calls...?

Received rejection e-mail this morning.

are you going to re-apply soon? i think the next opening will be in a few days...
anyways must be really hard to hear...hope it didn't ruin your desire for medicine!

Hope you're feeling better. Been there done that. It's really awful.

Any news for the rest of you recently?

when the official duke-nus forum for this year opens up, hopefully will be able to post some feedback here on how many spots left.

Dr. Stenberg said that there's only a VERY FEW spots left reserved for those who took late MCAT. I assume that all decisions have been made and waiting to be released at any time now.

As for me, no I have not heard a peep since forever. They're delayed, I know. But at this point I'm ready to move on to the next cycle because even if I get on a waitlist, historically only one or two got off of it every year. We had two at minimum (?) last year.

I have emailed to ask about my status and I was told it is typical for applicants to hear back as late as May. Not sure if it's representative for those of us who haven't heard back or just for me. :/ So you're reapplying this soon? I would suggest you take some time off, and really do take your time to work on your application. I'm a reapplicant, and I wasn't in a hurry to reapply. In fact I submitted my reapplication right on the deadline, like 1st December, because I just can't stop being obsessed with improving on my essays. I rewrote all 4 of them and I changed my application entirely. In the meantime, just wait and be patient about it. Painful I know; I've been through it twice. This year is alot easier for me though. I guess over time I am better at handling this. :) It helps to keep yourself busy. And stay optimistic, even if things don't work out.

there's not much you can do in 3 months, except probably 1)write better essays or 2)improve on MCAT score. i'm sure you can apply this upcoming 2014 intake cycle while updating Duke-NUS on your current activities throughout 2014-2015. plus, you'll have activities to add in for this cycle's app from this past year (2012-2013), right?

Well nothing new in terms of EC because I'm still doing my research job (long term, 1yr+)...and new MCAT hopefully with brand new essays. Well at least I hope I don't have to send new transcripts...

Yup I did. I would think yes it's too soon, but I guess I secured a research attachment at a local hospital here to add on to my shadowings and clinical experiences, and on top of that something to add on to my research would be my honors thesis? I applied before I graduated, so in my first application i couldn't say much about my honors thesis. Volunteering wise... nothing much, just the usual annual projects I do. I retook my MCAT as well. And so by the time I send in my application in December I have worked for a few months upon graduation, so I guess that's something new?

On a side note, the courage to reapply stems from my counterparts here in sdn who constantly encouraged me to just try again this cycle. So I guess if it weren't for them I wouldn't reapply this soon. Hope this helps.

Oh yes, I emailed late march, a few days before April came. Don't read too much into it. Stay optimistic but I guess while hoping for the best we need to brace ourselves for the worst.

sounds pretty solid! and if you haven't graduated, you still got time. the average age for matriculants is like 24 (?).

Plus, sounds like there are still spots left, so you guys still have a winning chance in this cycle. Good luck!

I'm 25 this year actually. I think now I feel a little more comforted knowing that my birthday is late. Haha.

Because I spent an extra year taking my A's as a private candidate (I couldn't settle for sciences)... and if you're wondering I did well and got my As but strangely I just wasn't given the chance to be shortlisted for an interview.

So in that sense I am already one year behind my peers. :/ Applied to Duke-NUS in my third year (2011), and then in the year shortly after graduation (2012).

Solid to you but prolly not to the faculty. :/ Everyone talks about how "solid" my ECs are but at the end of the day what they think don't matter. Only the faculty's opinions do, unfortunately. Haha. if only there's a peer review system eh? lol. just kidding. :)

Pls dont be discouraged about the age thing. My good friend, who is 28, got accepted into MSU last year. She is a mom too. If anything I think her maturity is shown, and I think she will make a great doctor.

How did you write a new PS? I dont think I can write more variations of my original :(

mm... I condensed it and make it alot more objective. I also write in a way that i can better guide the readers through the essay?

I really fear the worst now. At best we could be waitlisted at this point. Ughhhh!

Edit: man my posts always look like i'm bringing down the mood. Anyway I'd be glad of anything right now, and looking forward to re-applying.

Physiologist, I saw ur post in the panic thread via Sdn live. U may want to look into residency info after duke nus. I was under the impression that applying to residencies in the us will be tough. On top of that, residency in Singapore, altho us style, is not currently accredited by acgme but rather is accredited by acgme-I. Whether u can practice as a specialist in the us after residency in Singapore is a question that I have not found an answer to. But I am under the impression that under the current accreditation, there is a high chance you will have to take on additional training and jump thru more hoops.

I apologize if I kind of rained on ur parade but I that it was more important that u are aware and can look into it some more.
