Congrats!
So here's a quick run-down on the advantages of grad housing from my perspective. I haven't actually lived there, but I did look into it at one point.
-reasonably priced - definitely cheaper than what you would expect to pay otherwise
-one of the buildings is connected to the university internet, which is awesome; just so you know, ISP options in the Hyde Park area are TERRIBLE, so this isn't insignificant IMO
-neighbors are also U of C grad students - this isn't an advantage for me personally, but I understand why people would want that
-many of the buildings have various utilities included, which is obviously nice
As far as finding a roommate, there are a couple of options. First, check out the U of C marketplace (
http://marketplace.uchicago.edu/). This is essentially a modified version of Craigslist that requires university affiliation in order to post to it. There are also lots of postings for rental opportunities generally, so that'd be another place to check out if you want to explore housing options outside of grad housing. Failing that, a Facebook group will be made for you guys shortly if it hasn't already. That'll really be the place to find a roommate if you'd prefer to have a classmate as a roommate.
Hope that helps!
