but this post is also for those who are not hearing anything and/or are silently patrolling this thread... I was you last year! It is still so, soooo early! Things really didn't start to heat up for me until after thanksgiving and into early December... this is going to be a long haul, so do your best to stay mindful of the process and take it easy. And, yes, I know that is much easier said than done, especially when it seems like others are hearing and you're not, but this an excellent time to sharpen those distress tolerance skills.

Yes, I did and know someone else who did. I think they sent it to those who emailed them their contact information (that was requested in the director's letter in the brochure but noted as optional and primarily for them to send out the invitation to visit their activities at ABCT).

Hi guys, did everyone who applied to musc get an invitation to the ABCT convention today?

MUSC had a really good party last year -- dessert bar! McLean's was also very nice. Got to speak with lots of helpful people at both. I highly recommend checking out the parties out if you can make it, as talking with their interns/alumni was nice for "warming up" for the interviews I went on shortly after.

Ugh, I just had a dream that I got the most beautiful rejection emails. They outlined the methodology that was used to determine cutoffs for interviews with charts and everything. That was the weirdest wishful thinking dream I've ever had. I'm still waiting on my first rejection.......or invite. Thank you to everyone that's shared thus far. It looks like word on the places I applied to aren't out yet for anyone else either.

I think the best advice I could give for internship applicants right now would be to stay off SDN for the next 2-3 weeks. This process is out of your hands right now, and the constant checking will only make you more anxious and worse. Keep up with your e-mails for scheduling purposes when invites come in, but other than that, take a break from the process.

They did that last year, too! I remember thinking "What does this MEAN???"

Just FYI, McLean didn't invite until December last year--if I remember correctly, which I'm pretty sure I do because the entire month of November is still painfully burned in my mind.

I'm applying in Canada. As far as I've heard, we don't necessarily have to hear on December 5th, but each site has to send out all their interview invites and rejections on the same day. Maybe I'm wrong, though?

Edit: Actually, I just reread an email we got, and it says: "the membership agreed to use a uniform notification date for informing internship applicants about their interview status.

The date is Friday, December 5, 2014 .

This means that we are asking internship programs to wait until this date to send applicants invitations to interview. The idea is that students will all be notified on the same day about all of their interview invitations, thus enabling them to plan their travels in the most efficient and economical way possible. This should also help internship programs to establish an interview schedule without having to make too many changes, as was frequently the case when students were being informed about interview status often over a week or two period in November-December."

So it looks like we won't hear until December 5. I wonder what this means for all the sites that had December 15 listed as their notification date. Will we hear from them on Dec 5 too?

Yes, they'll sometimes come out on different days, depending on the site.

My experience so far was one invite (assuming government clearance) and one rejection from BOPs, which was confusing to me at first. I figured I'd either get a yes on both because I'm a good fit, or a no on both because they're federal and big league and such. I wasn't expecting one yes/one no at all. I'm over it now but I'm curious how my next responses will turn out. How about yours?

To the contrary, the one I got rejected from was less focused on my interests, with the exception of the population itself. At first I was surprised because it is less competitive than the one I got invited to, but I think after mulling it over it makes more sense.

It is a REALLY good idea to keep in mind that sites are reading for what is often a well-developed (over years and 100s of applicants) sense of "fit", which includes BOTH your expressed interests/lived experience and a strong liklihood of match from their perspective. (And I mean both Match (as in the algorithm and day) and "match" to the culture/client population/personality of supervisors in their particular site for the coming year.)

The poster above is probably right in his/her reflection on why one site said Yes and another No. Sites that are "less competitive" due to funding, location, status, etc., may predict that the strength of your application means the likelihood you would rank them high, relative to others you would likely seek, is low (relative to others they are reviewing) and decide to offer the limited number of interviews they can to to the pool of applicants who are, by history/program/practicum sites, most likely be an "even" match. Don't drive yourself crazy trying to figure it out. Accept that some places will reject you because of strengths in your application/ref letters that are just not as good a fit with them as they will be with other sites. You are making educated guesses about what sites would be a good fit for you. Sites are making educated guesses about which applicants would be a good fit for them. It is not an exact or predictable process. It IS a ritual ordeal. And you will find an internship.
