An attending was telling us that 4 students out of a class of 90-something didn't match. One of the students that didn't match was described as someone that avoided seeing patients in the clinic and put very little effort into their education.

Described by who? The attending? Or the person's classmates? I'm not concerned with this specific event, but it seems like its easy to use things like this after the fact as an excuse when really this is a condemnation of the teachers who just kept handing the person along and passing them. Phoning it in for a year as a 3rd year under the eyes of schools' faculty should shut the door to 4th year. They would probably have gone forward with it anyway (parity?), but we're going to have to take a stupidly expensive standardized patient board after we've already spent all of 3rd year and the better part of 4th year interacting doing rotations. Wouldn't it be nice to think that somewhere along the way someone would have said "you have terrible patient interactions" or "you are woefully inept at taking a history". Rant summary: sometimes it is immediately clear that someone will never be a doctor. Getting cut early is a kindness. Saying after the fact - "I always knew this would happen" reflects worse on the teacher than the student.

Also, congrats Scholl. Especially their students from last year. Amen to moving their lives along.

This came from an attending. This student was told to work many times while in the clinic but apparently they didn't want to follow sound advice. They subsequently bombed 4th year externships and didn't land a residency (no surprise, right?). You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

NYCPM was at 95%.

According to our GME director one school came in at 68% placement.

Scholl also placed 1 at Wake Forest in North Carolina. 3 of 90 left for class of 2014. Those are facts......

That's a new program.. right?

Wow! Impressive that they already have people placed there. They are not even listed in the directory of approved programs on the CASPR website yet. I thought they would appear there and then on the scramble list.

Does anyone know what Temple's placement rate was this year? or their match list?

Last I heard, there were 13 scrambling and 4 unmatched after 1st day of scramble. I believe the number was down to 3 a week after scramble started. This is out of 104-105 i believe.

Any news on how KSUCPM did in the match? I have heard nothing. What was the breakdown by graduating class of people who did not match this year? Is the situation improving? I know around 95 graduated KSUCPM this year but the upcoming 4th year class 2015 is unusually small.

This is a good example of a good marketing tool that can be use for unmatched students let themselves known with a tv commercial
