3.7, 3.6, 510 here from south east Asia living in the United States. Do I have a chance?
If you apply, you have a chance. If you don't apply, you have zero chance. I'd say go for it! :)

Duke-NUS doesn't really publish those stats, but based on the old MCAT, the average is typically 30 and above, while GPA is usually second-upper (probably around 3.4 out of 4? Not too certain about this) and above.

But of course, Duke-NUS has a holistic admissions process so it doesn't just consider the MCAT and GPA :)

I completed around end of June in terms of application, and I have not heard back from the school yet. I think they send out invitations to students a few weeks before each applicant day. Since the applicant day in the US is in November, they will probably send out invitations for applicants from the US after the Oct applicant day (Oct 27). Or at least, that's my wishful thoughts, haha! So I won't worry just yet. Maybe we will hear some good news from the school at the end of Oct or early November. Fingers crossed!

Hey as snowpeach said, the invites for US applicants will probably go out after the October applicant day, so don't worry too much :) Your stats look awesome!!!

I'm sure you and snowpeach will be invited for Applicant Day in the US!!

Hey happyyay, will you be attending applicant day on october 27 in singapore? I had mine in september and my interviews were very conversational and felt more like get-to-know-you sessions so don't worry too much about it. Just read through your application so you can explain well if the interviewers ask about specific activities/interests.

Don't really understand what you mean by "spam emails"? You mean emails from Duke-NUS? And nope there's no average GPA or MCAT scores. I think that's good in a way? Lessens the emphasis on academics and more on applicants' whole package.

I will be applying this year! First time.
You do realize you'll be forced to work in Singapore for a number of years post-graduation, right? And that you'll likely have to pursue a second residency in the US if they don't approve you to train here (they have to approve your training site and do not allow you to pursue any specialty- they are mostly looking for GPs and will likely only approve IM, FM, and psych, but even those programs are a toss-up, and years spent in those programs would not count toward your service requirement). So you'll be in Singapore for at least 9 years, possibly 10 if you choose to do residency there.

Anyone from the September applicant day heard back anything yet? Maybe for call-back interviews, etc.? :) I haven't heard anything!

If you haven't heard back yet, chances are that others have not heard anything yet either. ;) Hopefully, good news comes to you soon!

Good luck for your interviews tomorrow @bradykinin, @azzcays and @happyyay !! I would recommend reaching a bit earlier than the stated time so you can chat a bit with the other applicants and relieve stress/tension! (Almost everyone becomes fast friends :p).

Thanks @snowpeach and @bearwhiz! It was definitely an enjoyable experience for me. The ice breaker and team LEAD session really helped to ease the nerves; interviewers were friendly as was mentioned before in previous posts. Good tip about reaching earlier to chat with other applicants! @bradykinin and @happyyay, how did you guys find it?

Well the Team LEAD session was really exciting and quite challenging. Interviewers were not grilling you per se, but they were asking questions in line with what you wrote on your app. ;)

Hello. I am just an applicant (and not an ad com), so I know that I am not in any position to predict your chances of getting into Duke-NUS (in fact, I don’t even know what my chances are to get into Duke-NUS, haha :D). But as a person who is striving towards the same goal of getting into Duke-NUS, I would try to retake the MCAT (if possible) if I were you, and have a solid EC to support the application. Since Duke-NUS uses holistic review, I hope that the school looks at us more than just numbers. Best of luck to your application!!

Great advice, snowpeach! I would probably do the same, i.e. retake the MCAT :) And yep, I think having relevant (medically-related) extracurriculars would definitely boost your application greatly!

Grats to those who have invitations to the applicant day! I like to ask how early do they inform you for the applicant day? My application was completed on Oct 19th 2015, just wondering how long I should wait for :p

I got mine 3 weeks prior to the applicant day. :)

I also got the invitation 3 weeks before the applicant day. But if you are a local applicant, and your applicant day is in Singapore, you may get the invitation perhaps like 10 days before your applicant day. I could be wrong though. Best of luck to you, and hope you get the invitation soon!

Thanks for your reply as well Snowpeach, also much appreciated! I am an international applicant (from Hong Kong), so I guess applicant day would be Singapore for me, if I do get one :D

So I have a missed call from singapore today. When I looked it up, it seems to be a number from NUS, +65 6516 4444. Does any one receive a call from the school after being invited for applicant day and before the actual applicant day? There is no voice mail, so I am not sure if I should call back.

I didn't! Did you reply their email about applicant day? One of my friends got a call on the day of the deadline because she didn't RSVP for the applicant day! Hmm I think they might have emailed you if they didn't manage to call?

Not enough blind praise to suspect sneaky marketing imo

Well you got it.

But it appears this program is targeted specifically at those who want to practice in Singapore, so LCME accreditation means little, so there's no reason to think this is some sort of advertisement thread.

Yes, that might be it since the deadline to RSVP for the applicant day for me was yesterday. But I confirmed my attendance with Ms. Tammie on Friday, so hopefully there is no problem. Thanks bearwhiz!

I completed my application mid Sept, and only gotten an invitation in Nov. I think they might need a while more to evaluate your application.
Still have sessions in Dec, Jan, Feb and March! Hope you get an invitation soon! Good luck!

I think all the invites for 16 Nov have been sent out, so yours will most likely be the one on 11 December! :)
