Anyone know what the Crozer-Keystone program intern schedule is going to be?
The PD mentioned 10 hour shifts: 2 morning, 2 afternoon, 2 night, 2 off. He then said it would come to around 17-18 shifts per month depending on the calendar month (170-180 hours per month) . When I count the shifts it comes to 23-24 shifts per month (230-240 hours per month). That's a huge difference...

Yea I guess I can see how that might be important for a new program to clarify more clearly lol!!

Just met someone who is going on 27 interviews and is not couples matching lol. So just saying, that there are people like that out there. And if he sees this post on sdn, well yea you are "that guy" ;) lol

He didn't want to cancel any invites in case the one that he canceled might be the perfect fit for him, my reply was "cool" but in my mind and written all over my face was "you are a loser my friend and have fun staying a virgin" :).

Think I met this guy too. Did he give you the story his advisor worried him he wasn't competitive so he over applied (to all the programs) and received more invites than expected?

He said he has them scheduled, I was like no way is your energy or money going to hold out for that. He had told me if he decided not to do them he would cancel them in January. I said cancel them now, I was like that is too late for other people who need those interviews to get a chance to pick them up. He Said he never even thought about that....

=_____=

If you can't decide on whether a program is a good fit or not after looking at their website (hospital/curriculum/people), then a half day meeting with the PD and a few residents isn't likely to help at all either. Tons of programs also have their interview presentations (powerpoint and videos) freely available online as well.

Sure there are some things you can't really get a good feel for unless you visit the program in person, but for the most part interviews should be to get extra information on programs you already feel would be a good fit.

When you get off the waitlist via interview broker but the interview is literally in 30 hours on the absolute other side of the country. First off who cancels an interview less than 2 days out. Secondly do I really want to drop 700 plus for travel?!?

You know how programs specify on Interview Broker that you cannot make any changes within X number of days of the interview? If applicants are "summoned" within that window, they should be able to do whatever they want re: scheduling/canceling. I think it's pretty understandable.

This program allows applicants to cancel up to T minus the day of the interview, not sure how or why that's allowed. But also brings me to my next point why are you canceling the interview 30 hours before the interview. While I'm happy it's opened up, it's a nightmare logistically speaking. Just venting about how bs this process is lol.

I received an invite 6 days out, and even that would have been too much of a logistical nightmare for me. Program was just too far away and travel too expensive on such short notice. They filled all their remaining spots, though.

Sometimes it is not an applicants fault either. I was awakened by a rude program coordinator during interview season asking me where I was. I responded "in my bed." She said I was scheduled to be at an interview right now. I pulled up my email and directed her to X date where I had politely withdrawn my application (well over a month in advance). There was dead silence on the phone then she mumbled something and hung up. Glad I didn't interview there!

It's via interview broker tho, so it should theoretical take out the Human error. It's all good tho booked the 600 dollar flight and leaving in a few hours lol.

Did you guys do anything in ERAS if you cancelled an interview or just send an email/call?

cancelled a few last week but by and large i think interview season is over ...would think any interviews left are programs that aren't too excited by you if they haven't offered anything yet

I cancelled a total of 10 interviews. I still think there's hope for people to stock up on some after-Christmas interview offers.

After interview season is done I would have gone on 15. I'm couples matching, so please don't crucify me!

Was wondering if I could get some feedback here, didn't want to create an entirely new thread for this. DO student, 215-220 step 1, 230-235 step 2, rotated at a 2 community ED's and an academic/county ED. My grades for my rotations are HP/HP/P at community/academic/community. I just received the grade at my most recent rotation and am kind of bummed by the pass, I thought I had performed as well as my other rotations, but such is life. I already submitted this SLOE and programs I interviewed at all know the SLOE is coming so there's no hiding it. I received 13 interviews out of 50 I applied to, but 3 of those are off places I rotated at. My question is, being that I initially received interviews with two HP's, how much will this pass affect my chance to match? I know numbers are on my side from charting outcomes, but I would like opinions on people involved with this process. Thanks and happy new year's.

I wouldn't worry too much, Bruh. 13 interviews should be fine.

Steps for success:
  1. Click on the blue "REPLY" button at the bottom right of the last post (don't copy and paste since it will not pick up the HTML code for boldface fonts).
  2. Remove the bracketed things at the very beginning and very end. (QUOTE=username;numbers) and (/QUOTE) - where the parentheses are brackets
  3. Type what you are adding at the top so people won't have to search the whole post to see what you added.
  4. Make your additions to the body of the list. List entry format:

I've gone on 12 and have one more left (Christiana Care). Declined 13 interview invitations back in November.

9 down, 6 to go. Declined 1. Stay cool, my friends.

14 down, 1 left. Declined 19 interviews.
Yes i applied to too many, I know.

Nah, been a lurker for a while. Wanted to combat the communal anger aimed at people who, like me, go on 15 interviews-

I just have NO IDEA what im doing with my life and want to see various cities/ styles of programs, and in EM there are about a billion truly amazing places, wanted to see them in person.

You speaketh heresy lol. Anyways hope you found what it is that you were looking for ;)

14 interviews, declined 6. I see nothing wrong with people going on however many interviews they wish, it's their life/career not ours; just like I could have cared less when Lebron went to Miami lol, it's his life and he didn't owe anyone anything. Happy new year and last two and a half months before the match everyone!

I'm really interested to see if we get late movement in January. I haven't received any invites since early November and still have yet to hear from like 25 programs that have either been silent or have told me I'm waitlisted. I know many programs are interviewing through the first week in February so there is definitely still time for those hoping for one or two more.

My honest guess is that if you haven't canceled a place by now, it's very unlikely that your gonna cancel it at all. Just my humble $0.02.

It's all about perspective, it's fun when you are high and mighty sitting at 14, but curious if you'd be singing the same tune if you were at 6 or so ;). This process is quite random and arbitrary. I know a handful of competent competitive applicants who are at single digits and not because of anything they did wrong, it's just the nature of the beast. So yea you're correct you've earned those interviews and congrats, but also recognize that this is a fluid system where one persons action affects others. Def just opened up another can of worms for this debate lol!!

Just a little anecdote. The week before xmas, Dec 18, I received an invite and I also got one three days ago. I honestly do not expect any more movement.

I went from 7 to 9 interviews in the last two weeks.

Your username plus anecdote make you very recognizable. Pretty sure I met you on my Dec. 18th interview.

As an individual sitting at 6 - yep, singing a slightly different tune.

not looking for the pros/cons but has anybody actually been encouraged to rank a 4 yr program highly by an advisor? i've only talked to residents (admittedly biased since they all have been or currently at 3yr programs) who say to make sure to try and match at a 3 yr

I'm ranking a 4 year program number 2. I'm my own advisor, though. Stay cool.

I think my top 6 are 4 year programs. My advisor said to go with the program that fits me best in the city I like the most. Of course, all three year residents say a fourth year is a waste of time and all four year residents say it doesn't matter, ha.

Also, I got an interview yesterday but declined.

I've had numerous advisors advise me on a 4 year program. Like you said you don't want the pros/cons, so I won't give em to ya, but their theory was based on the fact that everything is getting more competitive even for jobs, and it does look better having that extra year under your belt where you can work out the kinks before you are officially in the real world world! The future is always unpredictable, but one thing that never changes is the ever increasing need for more or better credentials. Aka similar to how everyone needs a masters degree these days even to work for chipotle ;). By the same logic (Whether true or not, but hiring forms don't care about that) why hire a first year attending with 3 years of training when we can hire a 4 year trained attending and risk havin him screw up less lol. Like I said not always true but metrics and administrators who hire don't always see the logic.

I'm under the impression that graduating from a PGY4 program makes the transition into an academic job–fresh out of residency–an easier one. I am interested in academics, so I will probably rank the PGY4 programs I interviewed at highly.

Anyone care to comment on the cons/pros of 3- vs. 4-year programs?

Try the search function. It has been hashed out on this forum numerous times.
